As part of my coverage of project Gooseberry, I have asked every participating studio to share a peek into their daily lives. With teams all over the world, this is going to give us an amazing little insight into the diversity of the different cultures that will melt together in the movie.

We're starting the series with Gecko Animation from London, England.

Hi, I'm Ben, from Gecko Animation. We're a small studio based in London, England, where we use blender for commercials, product vis, vfx and animation, and soon our first feature film! For Gooseberry we'll be joined by Jonathan Ball from Pokedstudio (who is based in Wales), and director Chris Burton (who's in London too).

My day starts with leaving home and crossing Waterloo Bridge (which has a pretty nice view of London's major tourist attractions), before arriving at our studio near Holborn. We're currently working on some product-vis stuff, after finishing up the Gooseberry teaser. I had a burrito for lunch - which wasn't particularly British, so I paired it with a cup of tea for the photo.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. It's good to see people from the UK involved!. Would love to see more 'Fly-on-the-wall' details, from inspiration to creation.

Keep up the good work all

  2. Great idea for a series of articles! Very interested to learn a bit more from these studios, however I must say I'd much rather read about (and see pictures of) how they work than what they have for lunch...
