Blender was used for modeling, unwrapping, texturing, lighting and compositing. This was rendered in Cycles for the meshes, and in Blender Internal for the smoke.

Excellent work! Excellent use of texturing, detail, and lighting to create this scene! I need to work on my texturing abilities. Does anyone have a link to a tutorial on how to properly texture in cycles? The materials system is significantly different from Blender Internal, and I haven't figured out how to properly work it for textures of any kind.

If you've said it was a picture of the real Charles Nungesser's airplane, I could have believed you !
    Just perfect !

  3. Very nice picture.

Do you play Rise of Flight by any chance? There you can take the Nieuport 17 for a spin...for me that's usually an out of control spin straight into the ground. :)
