Developer Meeting Notes: February 2, 2014

blender_logo_shinyRelease candidates for Blender 2.70 are expected in two weeks, and work at this moment focuses on bug fixing, finalizing the new Tabs user interface and integration of some patches and updates of external tools (Carve, Freestyle).

Ton Roosendaal writes:

Here is a summary of today's meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders.

1) Blender 2.70 progress

  • Planning is still the same! In two weeks we'll make release candidates.
  • Release log in progress. GE LOD needs a doc still.
  • Priority for everyone who works for Dev Fund or Blender Institute: bug tracker!
  • Work on tabs for toolbar is in progress, it's being reviewed using developer.b.o site reports. Check for example Object mode.
  • Proposal to clean up panels in Image Editor.
  • Campbell Barton would like some usability testing on a patch: Gesture based multi-button dragging/editing.
  • Sergey Sharybin tested an update to latest Carve library. It supports ngons and edge data interpolation (like uv maps, crease) and will solve several bugs. Almost finished patch here. Might go in 2.70 yes.
  • Tamito Kajiyama: Freestyle API revisions are in git master; work on the Freestyle section of the 2.70 release log is in progress. Special thanks to Folkert de Vries finding and solving bugs.

2) Other projects

  • Sergey: at some point next week developer.blender.org could be unavailable due to maintenance.
  • Ton Roosendaal: we had a meeting here to map out topics related to the Gooseberry pipeline. Full report coming soon. No big conclusions, just a lot of work ahead :)

    Tabs are great generally!

"Clean up panels in Image Editor" - definitely! Dingto's proposal seems very logical and fine!

Gesture based multi-button dragging/editing. Need visual hints surely!
BTW, changing UVSphere's values on creation is useful only if they are proportional (not just +1 difference). If this can be solved somehow (UI is the main problem here I guess) then it's worthy for such cases.

Carve is evolving, it's a great new! Thanks for bringing the update!
Freestyle is cool and someday it will become realtime (in a simplified version maybe) I hope!

  2. drivers for GLSL please! :D, the hability to change the offset of an image sequence texture via drivers is much needed, for characters that have the face expressions in the texture, pretty please :3

  3. I've tried tabs, it's too confuse, please clean up and name tabs with better accuracy, translate in tab is not good, can't work with this... please let us raise dimension of tabs and type. thanks
Clean creation process also, modeling uv paint have to be simple to use, glsl/textured etc.. is not funny to work with, please clean old blender and new blender!!!
hide somewhere old options for poweruser and simplify the process to become user friendly for all.
    thanks
