Thomas Nordstrøm was the runner up in the previous weekend contest, themed 'Fantasy places'. He got to pick this week's contest and he chose 'In the Basement'.

Thomas writes:

I choose "In the Basement" as topic for the upcoming contest. It's a bit open like the previous topic from Andre ("Fantasy"), but it also encourages to create an indoor scene or display and as such makes it easier to come up with a good result in the short time span we have for this.

Post your work below (attach an image), and vote for your winner. The winner will get a post on monday. Have fun!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

man, I guess the theme is about "vault" basements... But I see a kitchen on your render. Good start BTW but I think (not sure) it's another theme.

  1. Since I am doing a juice fast with no drinking, smoking, or solid food... maybe I'll have time to do this one :D ... on the other hand coffee is also prohibited, so maybe I won't.

  2. Didn't have a lot of time this weekend, but wanted to throw something together regardless. Really trying to just make more work this year, so here it is.

I do really like your entry Eric. It's simple yet very well made and there is definitely a mood you can feel just by seeing the picture. The wide angle lens you used combined with the low angle shot helps to convey a genuine feeling of paranormal.

      Great job !

      • Thanks! I was trying for super simple and then was going to try to play around with light in cycles, but I think as you found out too, its super hard to get good low light looks in cycles :/

Hi all, this is my first post at blender natoin, I like the weekend challenges and thought I'd join in. I'm a Blender beginner, I've separately been practising with displacement maps and the Ivygen addon and put this together. I started with Cycles but switched to Luxrender as I wanted to add some volumetric light.

  4. Here is my picture, it was inspired by Auerbachs Keller at the time of 1900 - I saw a picture like this on my google image search.
Sadly there`s not enough time to render in a bigger resolution, so that is what I made, hope you like it?!

thanks, you`re right maybe the lights should have been brighter and a slight glow would help to see where it comes from. I will make another render in a bigger resolution and some other fixes - but not today...

    • I think you cant delete it. But the Admin could i think :)
Anyways your picture is awesome. Sadly you will not get much up votes in that short time.

      • Vincent Holzborn on

Thanks. I´m currently do the Post production again, I rendered the Image in a bigger res. When it`s finished I will post it on my site: http://www.yusis.net

Thanks to everyone, it made a lot of fun - and the small time schedule is very challenging!

Used Gimp and Inkscape for some textures. Blender 2.69 (Cycles) on Gentoo - took around 2 hours to render in HD (i7, 8G RAM).

    • are they the new archemesh cabinets ? they look good, probably have a hard time gettin down those steps though.lol.nice pic very clean

  6. Here is my entry.
    First time I have entered!

I hope the thumbnail is the complete upload or I am going to have to reply to this as the entry.

Well, this is my first entry as a Blender semi-beginner. I'll call it "The Tenant" (it's a bit sparse I know, but of course I procrastinated). It is all in Blender, except it was too big so I re sized it with gimp. There's a story behind it, too. Every now and then my grandparents and aunt come in from out of town, and since I have several younger, noisier siblings, they choose to sleep in the basement. That inspired me to create this image.

    • holy shit, you put your grandparents in the basement with dog bowls and a single mattress, yikes ,sure hope that's a joke.
