Happy new year everyone! I hope it'll be everything you hope for and that you can reach all your goals. What are your hopes for Blender this year?

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I hope Blender 2.70c can blend coffee.

More seriously, rich pulpy juicy gooseberries harvests.

    And GPU powered SPH dynamics.

Happy new year. My hopes for Blender this year is that we get Open SubDiv integrated. That will be very awesome. -Also I hope that we will get closer to a 2.70 version. (Oh yes, and Cycles volumetrics advancements.)

Hopes for Blender (and for me)...

    Improve the VSE by:
    - integrate the (stable) possibility to modify the strips via the Node Editor (+tracking),
    - the power to split the audio strip in n channels with the possibility to modify each channel individually (n depending if the the audio track is stereo, 5.1 or more),
    - some audio filters (noise reduction, echo, etc...- gate withe audacity?)
    - ...
But first, THANK YOU for that marvelous suite :) Blender is a concentration of what we can achieve when we share.
::: Happy and a blended new year :)

  4. Happy new year! I hope that BGE will see advancements (or change of direction) in the areas of portability and quality.

Two days late but better late than never, Happy new year.

yeah, I am looking forward to blender 2.70 and the work that will be done on the Gooseberry project.
I am most looking forward to the refinements that will be made to the User interface to make it more user friendly, and the asset management tools that will be coming with the gooseberry project.
I'm praying that the asset management comes in the 2.7X Release, that would really be cool because I am currently making some models to share with the blender community and one of the models that I am currently working on are manequins like what come with Zbrush, as my way of giving something back.

  6. I just wish a little something: shedaer "images or movies" in first place in the select list --- I am humble ;)

    Happy new year! :)

  7. Blender is already beyond amazing. I don't need to list it all again. I use Blender for 10-11 hours a day. Everyday.
I want Blender to be more of what it already is. Attention to the small details while expanding the big picture. Blender must be known throughout the industry for its dependability and stability.
People should go from, "Inspite of being open source, they achieved that?" to "Because they're open source, they achieved it."

  8. On the back to basics side of things, more options for control of vertex normals would be something good to add. At this moment the only control of shading that exists is a mesh-wide limit of a single angle size, which applies to every face-pair anywhere within the mesh for the object. Edge Split is the only workaround and its usefulness is limited. More tools for controlling and possibly even preserving vertex information on export are overdue for a revisit.
