12

Traditionally, physics simulations all live in their own domain - rigid bodies do not influence fluids etc. In this demonstration, Nvidia shows their new 'Flex' technology, in which all effects influence each other. It's some pretty cool technology!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Yes, it's amazing!!! ))
And yep, everybody had thought that "I wish they'll make this technology Open".
If they will... it will be a revolution over all industries.

  2. Bullet engine HAS this functionality for years. It just isn't integrated this way in blender.
it has particle fluids, softbodies, allows realtime tearing of objects...

awesome demo! my two biggest simulation wishes from blender (now that we've got awesome rigid body tools in place) is hair collision, and a mesher for sph fluid particles. if any coders put up a kickstarter for either i'd GLADLY donate!

People got really excited about the water balloons at the end. I'm betting all those game developers instantly thought about physics-based bleeding effects.
