The Blender Foundation has released Blender 2.68

From the announcement:

The Blender Foundation and online developer community is proud to present Blender 2.68.

Many different mesh modelling tools were added and improved. Cycles render performance was improved on Windows and on GPU's. The motion tracker can now automate placement and choice of markers more with new tools. Smoke rendering quality has been improved to reduce blockiness.

Python scripts and drivers are now disabled by default when loading files. This is for improved security, without this feature malicious .blend files could cause problems. See the Python security documentation for details.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Hi, i don't know if this is the place to post it. But there is a bug where the Surface Pro cn't launch Blender. This new version.

  3. Great release! Thank you, guys!!!
One question about the missed feature:
that was a "lock" sign near brush settings. It was used to make brush's size zoom-independent. Do you plan to return it back? I really need it when any serious texturing work is involved.

      • Dude, you are so right. Oy, man bad. I looked back at Blender 2.67a and had a Twilight Zone moment.

I think I was confusing the zoom brush lock of the Sculpt Mode, and also my usage of the GSOC 2012 Bratwurst build for the zoom brush lock in Texture Paint mode.

I have like seven Blender builds I use. I know I've used the zoom brush lock feature before in Texture Mode, but yeah, it certainly wasn't in Blender 2.67a.

Though, now I'm curious, it bringing this feature back into development on the agenda?

      • Ooops, sorry! :)
I've had a strong feeling about that and it's just the case of wishful thinking.
It will be very good to have this though ;)

  4. It's my last day at work before a two week holiday... and the BF release a new version. Well, that's my day sorted then :-)

  5. Thank you all, devs! Releases focused on stability, bug fixing and performance improvements are always welcome. And beside all that we just got few new features anyway. What a great day :)

  6. Thank you, Developers, for your continuous improvements that make this tool even more awesome than it already is.

I love this !&%@# , another great release . Though i may wait about a week just in case there's an "a" or even a "b" release . i have so many build's . long live the blender nation . wohooooo . And a windpw's specific build , nice . speed up in rendering will be appreciated . smoke improvement's . to much stuff to mention , but thank's to all involved .

    • aha, you wait a week or so in case there is a "a" or "b" coming...?!
instead of waiting, you should test !!! because of people like you bugs are not reported early! you don't want to make your hands dirty... huh...
so, don't cry, when there are bugs found lately !!!
