I'm a real coffee geek, so I can't resist this tutorial By Filippo Veniero ;-)

Filippo writes:

Here in Italy (especially in Naples) a coffee break is one of the most important moments of the day. In this tutorial will show you how "prepare" a great Italian coffee using Blender, Gimp and other open source ingredients.

Start by searching for some reference images (I used the coffee cups I have at home). If possible, go to an Italian bar and order an espresso. Take some photos at the cafe (from the top view) and you can use them as textures. Save the photos in a folder and open Blender.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Great stuff! I really like the picture... But the smoke looks like from some match or a cigarette.
P.S. also all materials need a little of dirt. Or these things looks like very new. Some previous coffee "patterns" on the dish can take place here also :)
