FRED | The Short Movie

38

A short film by Valik Koscheev.

Valik writes:

My first short animated film, started as a process of learning character animation. I began working on it in the end of January 2013 and finished in the end of February 2013. Rendering process took me one more month (I was rendering at night) and it was completed by the beginning of April 2013.

"Fred" was modeled, animated, rendered and composed all by myself entirely in Blender. Texture making was done in GIMP, sound editing was done in Audacity.

The movie is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-ShareAlike license.

Really great, congrats! I imagine I'll be seeing this shown at the Blender Conf animation festival this year?? =D

  2. Very well lit... no idea about your experience in 3D but from amateurs and myself included most shortfilms lack a proper lighting work. Congrats!

    • My experience in 3D is about 8 months I believe (I was mostly learning something when I had time, not doing anything). This is my first serious attempt to do something by my own so I was practicing by doing it. And lighting was hard to achieve as I wanted it to be, playing with different lamps and clamp value. Great to hear you like it! :)

  3. You make my girlfriend cry!!! Not only the animation is perfect, but the feelings that you create is amazing.

Thank you a lot and i hope to see more

    • I was going to say something too. The instant I saw this I thought to myself "Haha I wonder where they got that idea...[cough] Resilience [cough]Satelle [cough] by Rogério [sneeze!] Perdiz [head explodes]?"

As much as it appears to be a copy of his project, especially since most serious Blender animators know who Rogério Perdiz is...things like this do happen and it would not be fair to you to suddenly get bombarded by false accusations. Sorry if that is the case. For what it's worth, you did a great job on it.

Because of the timing there may be a handful of people who accuse Perdiz of copying you too. Which is also unfair since he has been working so hard on it for so long. Either way there are always the people out there who say dumb things about everyone's work. It can't be helped. It comes with being an artist and our desire to share our creations. We open our hearts up to the world and people throw knives without a conscience. You know the truth about your own work so if its not what it looks like stay positive and keep moving forward. Keep creating.

      • Why would I lie? What's the point of stealing? As an artist I want to express my own thoughts and ideas. If I copied the idea, then it makes me stupid, because it's a waste of time. Would you waste your time on copying someone else's idea instead of expressing your own thoughts? No! Why do you think I would? Maybe if I've seen that teaser before, this idea would never come to me, but I didn't. Anyway, I believe his movie will be a whole different, cause you can't judge according to this 1 minute teaser what it will really be about. My movie is not about life limitations. It's about every human being is special, no matter who you are or what you are. And I hope someone after watching my movie felt special. And even if it was only one man, then it was worth it.

        • You and me have a lot in common, starting from story ideas XD ...It actually is the same story, on it's core, but anyway I believe you :) and no problem what so ever, after all there are hundreds of Batman versions and no ones stops watching them because of that.

          • Much respect to you Valik Koscheev.
I tried to word things in a way that did not accuse you as copying as a fact. But to speak from both possible sides. I know that would be totally unfair for you. I would not like to be accused of copying. No artist who is passionate about their work would like that. There is just no way to know. Its sad that there really are people who do steal art from others. I've seen it happen many times. It's the worst. But I believe you and totally agree with where you stand on the topic. Coincidences like this really do happen.

  5. it's really stunning how emotional your characters are, even without mouths. i can't believe you managed the whole project in such a short time :) this is the kind of shortfilms I really like.
I wish I could do stuff like that in blender :/

  6. Your first short animated but I guess you have already had experiences filming and editing. The management of the camera is excellent.

  8. Very nice!
"Everyone is special" - you could make a social ad. for some Russian TV channel. Our country need more love on TV and more "good propaganda".
A bit more drama and more work on modelling, camera movements and after-fx so it will be much heart taking!
    Wish you best luck!
