BlenderMayaModelling

Aidy Burrows presents an extensive reference for Maya users who want to model in Blender.

Aidy writes:

I’d like to let you know about possibly one of the most useful modelling reference tutorials i’ll probably ever do :)

Note : This is designed for everyone, previous Maya experience not necessarily required!

WHY YOU MIGHT LIKE TO TAKE A LOOK >

1) You want to get a thorough look at the modelling tools available in Blender.

2) You want to search for a tool that you are used to using in Maya and need to know the Blender equivalent.

And the whole thing should take a little over an hour! :)

In fact you can start 5 minutes into the first video if you want to skip the intro.

OR IF YOU WANT THE SUPERFAST VERSION, check out the hotkey cheatsheets and translation guide on the site.

All details can be found here...

I hope you find the reference of use!

    • They work fine the other way around too, if you know Blender, and you're wanting to learn Maya. He basically shows how the same tools work in both programs, so it's just as usefull the other way around.

  1. What strikes me is how similar Maya and Blender are, except Maya costs thousands of $'s whilst Blender is totally free and improving all the time!

Plenty of things that are the truth can also be off-thread or off-topic. You might as well mention that there is also a kitchen appliance called a blender and an ancient civilizations known as the Mayans... they are tangentially related but they distract from the topic at hand. In this case, a useful transition guide between two applications. Keep the waters unmuddied, it serves all of us well.

          • Nonsense, your implying that Blender and Maya have nothing in common. Both Maya and Blender are 3D packages and they more or less do the same thing. Simple as that.

But that's exactly what you hinted, on the other side of the argument on wishing how to use Maya instead of Blender LOL!. And after all, it is a blender site.

Nice reference! I'm working with other developers on a project and some of them use Maya. Though, I don't need them to use Blender to collaborate, it'll be good to have a reference like this just so that they can use .blend files with Blender directly if they need to.
