Hi guys, This February I have decided to do a timelapse a day to boost my skillset.

Yesterday we had the sci-fi floor panel, and today we have a sci-fi weapon.

Enjoy :)

  1. It's an awesome design!

And after I've looked about a half.... total topology nerdy stuff ))
    Don't need to be so "properly-oriented"! :)
For non-rigged meshes this rightness is overkill. Use n-gons more often! :)
P.S. Subsurf things and n-gons are solvable using Edge Split, Bevel modifier and some fast Knife cuts.

  2. I like topology, n-gons are not very good on smoothed meshes, especially when rendering in mental ray. It's also good practice to work with clean topology and looks better in my portfolio ;)

    • I didn't knew about that in Mray. It's true about the practice. But I've found that for a good speed it's better to work with ngons then split as you want... choose any flow directions and so far. I mean it's practical. Also it's a very good reason - current Bevel tool works better with ngons. So if you have some tricky corners (not very tricky which can be impossible to bevel well) then it becomes unreal to bevel. AND it's so true for Bevel modifier that in some cases it doesn't bevel well if the front face (or faces) contain only good quad-rule topology. I've faced to it just few days ago. Sometimes this modifier is very cool to use while modelling. It gives freedom of choice until we'll have our "Blendini" ;)
