blender_logo_shiny2.66 Release Candidate is now scheduled for release next weekend.

Ton Roosendaal writes:

Hi all,

Here's the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders:

1) Blender 2.66 release

  • Bug tracker is on 94 open issues, not too bad, but everyone's invited to check on his/hers assigned reports!
  • Brecht van Lommel: The 'sm 2.0' bugs are the biggest Cycles show stopper, he will check on systems in Blender Institute tomorrow.
  • Sergej Reich: Rigid Body work is all ok. Constraint visualization has been worked on, but is 2.67 target.
  • Meeting agrees on doing an official test build tuesday. Jens Verwiebe (OS X), Thomas Dinges (Windows), and Sergey Sharybin are standby. (Question, is FreeBSD possible again as release too?)
  • If all goes according planning, next sunday we will do the 2.66 Release Candidate build.
  • Problem: Multisample OpenGL drawing for Linux users fails a lot using backbuffer selection (Editmode Mesh). Suggested was to either remove this option (for Linux) or add a huge warning label underneath the button when you enable it.

2) Other projects

  • Proposal for "Minimal Platform list" has been improved. No immediate actions will be taken though, apart from allowing developers to close issues in tracker for old platform issues we cannot redo.
  • OpenGL stays on 1.4+ still, but will be investigated in the next months.
  • Lukas Toenne: Pynodes will be ready for merger after release.
  • Next release FreeStyle is a target too, everyone please test and help out!

Thanks,

-Ton-

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

I cannot wait to try this version out, I have been long awaiting solid body physics. with the bullet intergration the physics system should now be incredibly solid :-)

Thanks Blender developers! Really looking forward to this one.

Dyntopo and bullet are both huge leaps in making blender a complete production powerhouse!
