Diario AS - O'Neill watch commercial

By LaCatedral Animation Studio.

Juan Carlos Mostaza writes:

Here it is another commercial made for Diario As to promote a cool O'Neill watch. The production company was LaCatedral Animation Studio located in Madrid (Spain).

We used Blender 2.63 and Cycles renderer. Cycles was a very good friend and its capability to see the final result in just seconds was really helpful to manage the set and the reflections over the watch.

In modeling, n-gons were a gift and allowed us to create the watch in a record time.

Due to customer requirements, there is no motion blur (they wanted to see all the detail clearly in every frame). Cycles is a great render engine and we hope its developers add MB feature soon.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. That looks great!

I think the only thing that looked odd was the back ground logo at the end, when it comes into frame is looks like it bounces a touch.

    Otherwise, looks legit! Good work!

  2. Loved the final two words cos they made me lol. "Con As" sounds like connasse which is an insult in french, meaning "stupid b***ch". :D

    Nice model though.

j'avais pas fait attention au début, hahaha.

You're right, I hadn't paid attention the first time cause I live in spain, hahaha

  3. Is it just me or is Blender used a lot by spanish professionals? Cause this is not the first spanish ad posted here that was done with blender.

      • Actually I don't think that has nothing to do with being or not being spanish. As far as I know there's no more nor less Blender fans or professionals in Spain. As a Blender teacher I have perceived and took benefit of growing interest in Blender here in Barcelona (well, for me it's not Spain :)) but I don't think about this like so different than in other countries. Isn't?

Actually sometimes it can seem just the opposite; because some people in Spain (and in other places too) could be really closed mind, and still thinks that you SHOULD use some software to achieve some kind of results. So often when you say that you use Blender, Inkscape and Gimp (instead of saying Adobe blablabla) you are so likely out of the game.

        Just my thoughts...

        • Raimon. We don't consider spanish. We don't want to mix with such people called catalans. The symbol of catalonia is a donkey. Perfet definition of catalans!! ;D

  4. Esta super... Me encanto :D ...la verdad hasta ahora voy a incursionar en este mundo espero me vaya muy bien.
