Export to Maxwell Render with BtoMW

BtoMW

This new script allows you to export to the high-end Maxwell Renderer.

Riccardo Gagliarducci writes:

We announce a new possibility for Blender users: BtoMW!

BtoMW is a python exporter to convert Blender scene to Maxwell Render ( www.maxwellrender.com ) format *.mxs.

The script, as the programs, is working for Windows, Linux and Mac. It is able to speedup the work-flow. The current features are:

  • base mesh export (and all that can be natively converted to a mesh)
  • export of linked meshes object as instances
  • export of duplicated (faces and vertexes) objects as instances
  • reproduction of object hierarchies
  • export of base environment settings
  • link (not export) of materials. Multiple material per mesh are supported
  • multiple texture and uv-mappings
  • cameras

Currently the integration of the render engine directly in Blender is being developed (not released yet)

In order to run it you need Blender 2.62 and Maxwell Render python binding, released with 2.6.10 version.

Your feedback is deeply appreciated and anyone interested is welcome to contribute,

BtoMW Team

The licence of the exporter and the use of the bindings of Next Limits, given with the program.
      And, of course, some features.

Is great to see how maxwell is growing interest between the blender community.

But it looks to me b-maxwell from Nildar has far more features, such as exporting hair. Anyway if they get to integrated maxwell fire into blender viewports they absolutely win!

  2. I loved Maxwell very much, but after 3 years had to move to V-Ray as it is more flexible and efficient for professional use..

Since Blender-V-Ray integration (Open Source) project is now in It's apogeum phase with even hair and smoke implemented, I think it has bigger potential. ( I can learn from Max tutorials, work on Blender and qet quality "V-Ray look" graphics..)

    • Can you please send me a link to the vray addon. Vray is great for still renders and fly-throughs but I find it quite troublesome to use GI for animations. I still have nightmares of the dreaded GI flicker.

I love the work chaos group finally did for rendering hair it works quite well. It might help them lose the "Arch Viz only" label.

      • :) V-Ray's still just V-Ray - and they still recommend using Bruteforce for real animations (which is to me rather taking Maxwell's approach btw).

Anyway I'm very happy being able to use V-Ray together with Blender. I must say This combo (once learned) is even more stable than MAX+V-Ray (!!).
        The links are below:

If you'd plan to test it out, the first step is apply to "Chaos" for an access to V-Ray Demo (Maya version).
They allways grant such permission. (That's because the integration developer is not a Chaosgroup reseller)

        • Thank you very much.

I will be sure to check it out.

I think highly optimized brute force methods such as Cycles and Arnold is the way of the future as processing power is getting cheaper and cheaper.

If only Arnold could start selling to the general public and we could get a Blender-Arnold  addon.

I definitely have my eye on Cycles but i need sss, hair and fur. Cycles will be there soon though. Cycles will be perfect for my needs once it has sss, hair and fur.

  3. This one has been a long time coming. I have been
using the Bmaxwell add-on, not to steal the thunder here, but the Bmaxwell
add-on works great and is integrated into Blender as well. The latest release is
coming out soon with new features and for 2.63.  Just reporting the options here.

  4. It would be great if this worked! I'll keep an eye open for future development, as this version just crashes my Blender!
Keep up the good work though!
