I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

On the contest site, the poly limit was stated as 40K.  Is that in quads or tris?  Also, does that include scenery for the beauty render?

  2. I don't mean to hijack the thread (really!) but since the Mixamo guy is posting here...

I would really like to use Mixamo but have thus far had very limited success mixing motions. Having a character simply continue an infinite walk cycle is fine, but of limited use. I need to be able to have a character start with an animated standing pose, enter into a walk for a specified distance/time, then transition into something else; say leaning against a wall.

The tutorials on the Mixamo site take you as far as uploading a mesh and applying a single movement. A more in-depth tutorial on mixing motions and transitioning between them -- especially if it could be Blender-centric! -- would be fantastic.

If anyone else has had success doing this type of thing with Mixamo and Blender, please feel free to message me. I'd be happy to pay for assistance getting this worked out.

    • Darren, have you tried the sequence editor on Mixamo? If not you should, unless your looking for a more advanced style done completely in blender with mixamo motions?

  3. Srsly that Unity 3D pro license is very tempting but you *don't* wanna see the character I can make in Blender. :D

    • Sure we all do :)
Don't not enter just because your only starting out, enter to improve your skills.
setting deadlines and aiming to do something you want to upload is the key to improving your skillset.
And in a few years you can look back and bee like: "I've come a long way"
So say :challenge accepted: and I'll look forward to seeing your work in the competition :D

I've saw that you have to be registered to participate, but, can one person submit more than one character?

  5. Is the contest limited to America? I'm EU and since the prize money is dollars, should i assume that its only for Americans?

    • Our last contest had winners from all over the world. It might take a little more time to get your money but anyone can enter. EU is more than fine. Please join in :D

  6. Well this has come at the perfect time :)
I have to make a cybernetic shadow-juggernaut for my assessment. And with a 40k tri and 2K textures limit, that's basically photo-realistic level :D

  7. i'm still working on my entry and i think i won't make the deadline is there any possibility to extend the deadline even for a couple of days
