Blender Wiki: Call for Help

25

The Blender documentation team is looking help! If you'd like to spend some time writing or reviewing Blender documentation, read on.

mindrones writes:

We have just done a call for wiki writers, to see if we can build a team of editors/reviewers/writers for each chapter of the wiki manual, in order to build a good workflow to keep the manual up-to-date.

We want to propose the workflowdescribed below and make a call to build a proper Manual Wiki Team.

We need to see if we have enough people in each different role to start publishing proposed pages.

So for those that are interested to partecipate, please just propose yourself here or in #blenderwiki :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    • You should write better documentation info and if something isn´t right with the new editions, you should roll back the changes. That´s what the History page is for.

      • The documentation was almost like the old documentation, just updated.  There's certain people over there that feel it is their domain and they will trash your stuff in the blink of an eye.

          • It was a couple of years ago.  It would have been nice if someone said this wasn't acceptable for x reason, or it needs improvement here, but no, it was just wiped out and there was nothing in it's place.

          •  Hi !
Now we have a permanent board of reviewers/editors. If you want to write something, we are at IRC channel #blenderwiki.

          • c'mon man. you can do it! don't put your arms down because of some 5 years old people! If there's a lack of communication start being in contact through IRC or the Mailing Lists.
            Regards.

  2. Hi All.
My name is Ivan Paulos Tomé - A.K.A. greylica.
I worked two years in Blender wiki translating from English to Portuguese Language.
Next tuesday, I will be full time with the Blender wiki team, teaching novices and helping translators,
I will explain the guidelines, workflow, and one of the most important thing for writers, reviewers and editors -> How to plan and develop your page in Blender Wiki (Yes, we have good examples of well written pages, and also bad examples, like bad Images, functionalities that aren't well covered, tutorials in places where we expect technical instructions, etc).

If you want to join the team, and help Blender documentation, I hope to see you in #blenderwiki !

    Good Vibrations !

  3. I have been a blender user since 2000, and would love to help, if only in a proof reading role, due to my abismal speeling.
All to often I find the information un fathomable or undiciferable for anyone without a greater technical understanding of the inner workings of blender.

  4. I wouldn't mind trying to help once documentation is set by proofing out the steps in the documentation to see if it works as described.

  5. I offer my services as editor. I know Blender somewhat but nothing about Wikki so I'll learn as I go if I have to.

  6.  Hi!

I am an advanced blender user, i speak swedish and english. I would like to be involved in developing good documentation
for the best application known to mankind.

  7.  I'd love to help. I'm from the UK, Blender Level - Hobbyist (several years) , Occupation - Web Administrator. Working in a European organization I'm often given document's to proof read / edit by my co-workers and have always been told I'm very good at explaining technical concepts to people in easy terms. If you'd like me to help let me know. Cheers TNS

  8. I have worked on the wiki (just small fixes). How would I fix a typo in this new system? Does my one word change have to be reviewed before it takes affect?

  9. Hello, I have been using Blender for close to 5 years now, I will start studying CGI next year in a post graduate school in France, which means I will mostly be using $oftwares... And I really want to keep in touch with Blender :'(

This is why I am proposing my help !
I have some experience but I am not really an advanced user (that's me being modest) but I am fluent both in french and English, meaning I can help translating pretty much anything !

I would be glad to be helping the blender community ! Keep me posted ;)

  10. I would be interested in helping with the Blender wiki documentation.  I am a Blender hobbyist and have worked on technical documentation during my day job from time to time.  I am eager to help give back to the Blender community, so I hope this will be a way I can do that.
