Training DVD: Track, Match, Blend!

25

The Blender Foundation have announced a new training DVD on the new camera tracking module by the King of tracking: Sebastian König (pun intended ;-).

From the Blender e-shop:

This DVD will help you to get started with this powerful new tool, which opens up a whole new area for visual effects work in Blender. We will cover everything from simple 2D-Tracking, image stabilization and setting up a classic 4-corner-pin-shot to advanced camera- and object-tracking, including face-deformation and marker-removal.

You will learn how to use the interface of Blender\'s matchmoving module, the MovieClipEditor, how to add and control markers and get smooth and stable tracks. A special focus will be given to the placement of markers for matchmoving, because not every track gives you the information you need to get a decent camera solution. There are several chapters that discuss different types of shots and how to attack them.

A 10% Pre-order discount applies until the DVD gets shipped in mid March 2012.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I was wondering what Sebastian was upto. Didn't see as many updates from him anymore. I guess I will have to pre-order the dvd...

  2. Johnleighdesigns on

perfect timing for me this DVD - ordered already - ive been trying to get back into blender as my daytime design job keeps me too busy plus im also drawn into after effects - where possible i want to be able to use blender in my motion work as well as product design projects - this dvd will help on that side nicely - thanks sebastian - awesome!

  3. Finally!  Good, because yeah, like, I'm kinda lost about using a lot of the motion tracking features, and there's not a whole lot of documentation on it at the moment!

  4. I'm tempted to wait for the next release of this DVD, after Blender gets all the new features from Mango.  Though I won't donate directly, I will buy every DVD to support these projects.

But it's getting expensive; with this one I will have 4 DVDs on order: Project Mango, Vehicle Modeling (by CG-Cookie at the Blender Store), Nathen's DVD training 8: Humane Rigging, and now this one.

I've got quite a collection already.  I think I have all 7 of the training DVDs by Blender's celebrity artists, plus all the open movies + game.

    Keep 'em coming!

  5. Very interesting DVD !
But the link to the "example chapter" isn't working  :-( ... Can somebody fix that, please ?
Thank you very much and see you soon :-)

  6. ooohweee ! I can't wait for this , blender's camera tracker has got to be one of the best I've used in recent years , its straight forward and powerful. It certainly has allowed me to get away with some tricky shots :D

  7. having been a motion tracker for a few years now professionally ild say the biggest hurdle in the beginning is finding footage that has been shot well for beginners. great work Seb!

  8. I really want this too. I'm really stumped at the various camera settings, though. Has anyone had any experience with the Canon legria Hf20?

  9. Anyone know whether there will be any info on how to add reflections to the comp? there's very little info on this - seems that everyone is confused on this O_o
