In This Qucik Tip from Blender Magician I will show you how to use the new motion blur system. I was excited to see this, due to the fact that the old way hardly ever worked for me.

  1. Only actual difference in functionality that I notice is that, instead of being tied directly to the OSA values in 2.4x (and there were only four pushbuttons for those: 5, 8, 11 and 16), people can choose an arbitrary number of samples. Though I also noticed the new units for the amount of blurring between samples are calculated based on "shutter speed" which could be useful for photographers, assuming the units yield accurate results.

While it was easy enough for me to spot, most tutorials announcing that something is new-and-improved will be more clear if it is spelled out exactly which things are the changed things, and how they were prior to the changes.

  2. I really can't spot what's new about this.
Vector blur is better for animation anyway, sampled motion blur just takes way too long to render (even though the final results look better).

    • I just explained what parts were new, since the other guy didn't choose to explain it in the link.  Check my post from a few minutes ago.  It's all in the interface and having a few more options.

    • (Specifically, they let you control the number of samples directly instead of plugging in the anti-aliasing number of samples.  So instead of being stuck with whichever one of the four oversampling choices of 5, 8, 11 and 16 you are rendering with, you can put in a number like "30" or something.)

      • Geez, I just realized I could have just said "More samples!!" or something!  Ask me the time of day and I tell ya how to build a wristwatch -- I gotta work on not doing anymore.

Sorry for the mistake, it is not  actually a new system, it is only improved. As I was making a list of Quick Tips I just assumed it to be new, due to the fact that I saw different options such as "Shutter". I decided to release this one a bit early due to the fact that it appeared to be new and improved. My Bad.
