Hello, my name is Sylvain Moisset, I'm a freelance CG artist from near Bordeaux (France).
Several months ago I started to work on "Batman Deliverance", a film by Piere Desgranges the founder of Atomic Production, a little film production company from near Bordeaux. This film has just released and it has just been projected in two cinemas of Bordeaux urban area
Here's the official description in English:
"Batman has retired from the superheroes’ stage and Gotham City is plunged into chaos. As Bruce Wayne is getting older and suffering from serious problem drinking, is he going to resist to the Dark Night call for a last fight, a heroic fighting with an awesome adversary?
On Batman Deliverance, I'm credited as visual effects lead and designer/animator 3D.
All the 3D part was made by me with Blender and I was involved in setting up the greenscreen shooting.
The tracking was made with Syntheyes and PFTrack.
For the visual FX, I worked with William Gross, an employee of Atomic production who made the tracking, the compositing with After Effects and the editing on this film.
Here's the description of my involvement in this project :
At the beginning of the project, no 3D was supposed to be in this film.
I was making a freelance mission for Atomic Production when they planned the shootings of some Batman's shots.
The Batcave's shot was very complicated to shoot because it had to be shot in an ancient WW2 german submarine base in Bordeaux in order to get this kind of atmosphere.
Therefore I suggested to create the batcave with 3D.
This idea was adopted and Pierre Desgranges suggested that, 3D being used in the film, why do not make a shot with a new Batmobile design which is an important element of all the new Batman films. Batman Deliverance is inspired by Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" comic.
In this comic Batman drives a tank style Batmobile
Today this design seems a bit "old school" so the idea was to keep the "tank style batmobile" concept and to modernize it with some new references like the Christopher Nolan's Tumbler, the APC from Aliens film and some real life tanks and planes like the M1 Abrams tank (used as a base for the general outline and scale) and the F-117 plane.
For this shot we shot a true car driving and we used it as a base for object tracking.
The reason for the 3D in the street shot is that we couldn't succeed to get what we wanted with real life shooting due to some technical problems.
Here is a video of the shots on which I worked with and without visual FX:
