2.58 on track for release in june, Google Summer of Code starts next week!

Ton Roosendaal writes:

Hi all,

Blender 2.5x project

  • Patch offered by Bastien Montagne for review "Weight group modifier" (doc).
  • Confirmed: we're still on a 2.58 target in June to attempt making our 8-week release cycle!
  • blender.org development pages need urgent refresh to reflect our planning. Ton volunteers to tackle it monday.
  • Update/refresh needed for release cycle checklist: Thomas Dinges will help (also remove it from svn to prevent duplicates)
  • Nathan, Campbell & Thomas will review old 'BCON' status system, and come with proposal for new formal protocols how to manage development and release cycles, fitting bi-monthly releases!
  • Still important: we might need some kind of developer agreement.

Google Summer of Code

  • Monday 23 May is official start!
  • Which students will share branches, still pending proposal...

Other projects

  • Lukas Toenne's nodes branch had positive review by Brecht. (Note: this branch has no particle code anymore only node stuff!)
  • Actions: first get approval from other (node) team members on functionality. Then check on best moment to apply. Lukas proposes a.s.a.p. (for 2.58). Main disadvantage: it breaks forward compatibility (files saved with this won't read in last release).
  • Reminder: there's a cool bake patch for review. Ton will check with Sergey on way to get at least ESC work, or code a nicer way to block UI but have events handled and some redraws for progress bars and "Cancel" button.
  • (Not code releated) Blender Network proposal is open for review

Thanks,

-Ton-

  1. Spettacolo!!! on

Mamma mia! The Blender developement is even faster then Kubica's rehabilitation! Amazing it's probably the only free code developed that fast and intense on earth!!!!

  2. @etyrnal Bevel is already in the Bmesh Branch.
Bmesh is going to be merged with trunk in about three months for 2.6

  3. Pesky, they are fixed when there are no more bugs left for them in the bmesh branch. It's impossible to measure the time that this will happen.
    Josh, what's that?

  4. Hello to all. Firstly a big big thanks to all the Devs that are working hard to make Blender such an awesome software. I've said it before but without Blender, 3d would have been out of reach for me.

I've read the Dev page and the 2.6 series is just gonna be mind blowing. All the new features that are gonna be integrated just owesome.

Also read that a young Dev is working on the BGE and upgrading it. This is also a great news.

Again thx to all. And also a big thx to Ton.
