RenderWeb: Social Rendering on Facebook
The crew at renderweb have developed a novel way of both rendering and sharing your blender animations on Facebook. Using RenderWeb you can submit a job to be rendered by other users and your Facebook friends, and the results are automatically uploaded to Facebook for sharing (along with the high quality frames just for the author) once it’s finished. Jobs are prioritised according to your friends using the application, so the more of your friends you convince to join the faster you’ll get your renders.

I thought there were some issues about Facebook and ownership of any material that is uploaded to their site? I once had an artist tell me she stopped uploading her photographs to Facebook because of this kind of thing? Is that correct, and would that be an issue for potential users of this product?

As far as I saw from the video, it seems like the video/animation itself was hosted on renderwebs site and not on facebook itself.
I love the idea, a great way to allocate the unused processor power. Seems like this is most suited for small animations and not works of larger scale. I think their site’s really well set up.
@ronbravo: That’s a safety clause more than anything else. It’s not a “WE OWN YOUR FACE!” but a “If you uploaded to our server, we have rights to it as long as it’s there.” type of thing.
It’s a standard clause in most social/open web. Myspace, Xanga, Live Journal, Google anything .. they all say the same. If it’s on our servers, we have a right to it. Doesn’t mean they own it. You can do whatever you want. But supposedly it helps protect the user from .. theft or fraud or aliens or something.

i tryed the button “Volunteer my Computer” and than my computer was rendering a animated view of a kitchen…
i watched the videos on that website of already rendered animations an the videos are not very “resourceful”.
not for all kinds of animations i don’t want to volunteer my computer power…

many people have been interested in the Standalone for RenderWeb and we are too. it is on our road map. also, we currently only support the most recent version of Blender (2.56). Which means that only 2.56 projects can be uploaded. Yet, the volunteer does not need to have any version of Blender installed. RenderWeb will update as Blender releases new versions.

Was bedeutet, dass nur 2,56 Projekten hochgeladen werden können. Dennoch funktioniert die freiwillige müssen keine Version von Blender installiert haben. RenderWeb aktualisiert als Blender neue Versionen veröffentlicht.
also on our list is to expand out to other animation software, but as we just launched RenderWeb, that is a bit down the road.

Nate, can you add in FAQ some info about baked dynamics? I didn’t tried yet but it’s not clear for me how it will be interacting between user’s files and the community.

I’m trying it at the moment. But there are some flaws:
I just rendered about 30min on one frame (!!!) of some animation i guess with stupid HQ settings. Then blender crashed and now it still says “You have has donated 0 seconds and rendered 0 frames”.
One time I closed renderweb but blender.exe was still running on 100% power.
Maybe you should have a way to report people that just fill the queue with unnecessary stuff or have some limitations to the uploaded blend. Don’t know. There would be no problem if the participants would think a little bit and dont be soo greedy … oh well

Perhaps they should adjust their terms and conditions to match facebook:
“We own you, your work, your mail-contacts, your spouse and your grandchildren.
And we owe you nada.”
Facebook is better used for publishing photos of drunk party-people to ruin their careers ten years ahead of the scheduled career-launch. Who needs a full featured FBRM ( Facebook-Blender-Render-Mmate ) in RL, if twice the time one saves on rendering is spent in Facebook activities?

Sorry, but for the past Month this app has not been working correctly at all especially on Chrome. It just gives an error message that there is no available application.
Is Renderweb down ? I’ve been trying for months now to use it but everytime get an error message that the app is not working. I used IE, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
