I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I did this course last year and I'm doing it this year also.
Its not blender focused, but I dont care, the class I liked the most last year was for Modo and creating enviroments (I've never even touched Modo... or her mother)
I have maya but I use that once in a blue moon, the techniques still apply to blender, but it might not be for the beginner.
It got me to realise that I want to be an environment artist, and really gave me the boost I needed.
Plus you can chat with the people who worked on Avatar, how to tame your dragon, hell boy and transformers... got to be worth it just for that :D

  2. I would love following this kind of courses, but if my english is good enough to read and write, I'm still very week at understanding spoken english, espescially because of the so numerous various accents and speech velocity !

  3. This is very expensive. Considering blender is open source and has a strong following of people who pay little or rely on the goodwill of the community to supplement training, ADVERTISEMENTS of this nature should either be clearly indicated, or best left to the commercial sites to promote.

  4. Blender-using-artist cannot be isolated form "normal outside world". Especially if it is going to compare our results to contemporary industry standard. The fact that software is GPL-ed do not imply that any kind of artwork made by using it have different status from others.

  5. @Steve: "This is very expensive. Open source doesn't mean their users don't have money or are not willing to pay for something with high quality -in this case, training- .

Why not promote it here? why do I care if it's advertisement or not as long as it's good information and Gnomon is a reliable source of excellence in CG education?

Not everyone will be able to pay it, so they'll rely in the community, but quality education is always money well spent in my opinion.

  6. @Steve: Marketing is unethical only if it is done in stealth way, In this case we all know that that company sells training.
Whether they material conform to aesthetics standards in a philosophical way is a matter of another discussion.

  7. this sounds amazing im buying a ticket. Its depressing not to see this level of quality for training in blender cos i love blender to bits its my favourite software package and i'd shag my own m other before id use max or maya, in case you didnt know i hate that software.

  8. It is both expensive and good. Took two classes there about a year ago (Maya intro and Visual Comm), very fast-paced and industry-oriented. The teachers all work/worked on feature movies or other commercial art, so they know exactly what to teach you that you need for a job in this area. Their training DVDs are nice too, and they regularly host "making of" event (liked "9" and "Avatar"). Worth it *if* you have the money, free time, and intend to work in commercial 3D in H'wood/Burbank/etc. Most students seem to be on a scholarship or get their employer to pay.
