Yafaray Shaders Database

11

Thomas Baron writes:

A year ago, thanks to a BlenderNation post about LuxRender, I realized that the external renderer Yafaray didn't feature a shader repository.

Thomas continues:

So I started one, writing my own piece of website to allow everyone to browse the repository, download some shaders and upload their own. A year after, no better initiative (actually, no other ;)) replaced my almost dying one. So I decided to give it a boost : I fixed some bugs in the website, and uploaded all the good shaders from my latest project.

So this database now has 18 shaders and several categories, and you can help it growing.

The site is hosted at Yafaray Shaders Database. Feel free to browse it, download and test any shader you want. You can also upload some worth-posting shaders, if you're proud of your Yafaray work !

  1. Thanks BN for the ad ! I hope this initiative will be useful to the Yafaray communtiy.

AlexDS, you can browse the site and download a .blend file. Then, from your own scene, just import the shader from the downloaded .blend file.

  2. Blempis, I'm a bit unsure about the all-in-one download. I would prefer to see people giving feedback : rating, commenting the shaders, instead of allowing a one-click rip of the site. I think it will be better for the shaders authors, so they'll be more likely to post more of their work. Of course, that requires I add rating & commenting features :)

Thomas, do you mean stereographic projection (ie sphere to plane) or 3D preview ? Thanks for explaining me your point !

  3. Thomas Baron, what you just said is that if you get what you wish for there would be much more feedback and shaders. From the end user's point of view, that is not the best option when it comes to usability.

The best feedback I can imagine is that people actually use them as much as possible.

  4. I think it's better for everyone to have more shaders over having the all-in-one download. So I'd like to put more effort to increase attractiveness of the site for shaders authors, as it currently prevents downloaders to give feedback while it doesn't prevent downloaders to download.

Things will come in time, thanks for your feedback.
