  1. Just as soon as I can scrape together the money, I am so doing this!!

I've been a blender user for ages, but have never really taken the time the learn it properly.

  2. So... I was REALLY excited to hear about this tutorial when I first heard about it last week. I was even pretty close to buying it.

I had originally thought that it would be similar to the famous "joan of arc" tutorials for Max and Maya!

But after seeing the finished 3d model I'm kind of disappointed. The concept art is AWESOME, but the finished 3d model is, well... not. I mean the face is pretty generic. The textures and materials are pretty bland too, no real dirt or grime for a warrior woman, and the skin is just a flat color. I think the white pre-textured version looks a whole lot better than the "finished" version. And the hair... The hair looks nothing like the concept art and to me that was the part of the original concept that pulled the whole model together. then they went and tried to add hair effects instead of modeling it out. which works, but changes the look and feel for the worse.

It looks like a good model. Just not a great model.

I mean I'm sure the videos are great, I love blendercookie they have great tutorials. The dragon one is awesome I'm going through it right now. But this model just looks pretty generic and disappointing, IMO.

  3. I don't think i will be getting it, not at an 11Gb download, some of use have bandwidth limitations. He could have made some DVD's and posted them. Adding a few more £'s/$'s to the price could have covered that.

  4. @Anny Mous The content of the tutorial is very good. I know the final model is not as great as you might have wanted, but the focus of the tutorial was to teach all the tools and tricks of Blender 2.5, not to model a perfect women warrior. In a few words, the model suits a specific purpose and it does it very well.

  5. Looks like Kernon Dillon at blendernewbies is doing a better offer for £21/$33 and you get it on DVD. I think i will go with that one instead.

  6. This set was what I've been looking for. After skimming through several of the videos, the quality of training seems focused and in-depth. The price wasn't always $72. At one point the entire training was on preorder for $49. Once my 2nd monitor comes in, Ill have a dual monitor setup...1 monitor for the video tutorial, and the other for my actual follow-along work. It's tough trying to split the video tutorial and your Blender app on one screen.

As someone said on Blender Cookie, when you're done with the tutorial, you can fix it to how you want.
