Three October Blender Events in Milwaukee

Discovery World, a technology museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is offering a 3 night workshop covering “3D Design on a budget,” as a part of our DIY Media series. This is mostly a repeat of the successful workshop we had in April, which was announced on BlenderNation before.

The class consists of 3 two hour sessions starting on October 14th, which cover will the basics of creating 3D graphics for a variety of mediums. These workshops are being taught by 2005 Suzanne Award winner, Chris Larkee. The class will be taught in a 15 seat computer lab, but guests are free to bring their laptop if they like.

One key difference, however, is that the class is being split into 2 parts, beginner and intermediate. This gives the attendees the option of skipping the basic session if they already have some experience with Blender.

The cost is $35 for the basic session, and $65 for the two intermediate sessions. Discovery World members and MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design) students get $10 off each session.

From the website:

“Expand your skill set and learn to build, texture, and render any character or object with 3D graphics. Develop new skills you can use to create motion graphics, illustrations, video game mods, or simple animations for short films. This class will focus on Blender – free professional open source software, allowing you to continue your projects at home with the computer you have.”

And one more thing, regarding Milwaukee: This weekend, October 3rd and 4th, is BarCamp Milwaukee, and anyone is welcome to come to our unconference where creativity, hacking, and all things open-source will be represented. Chris Larkee will be doing a free session on Blender there some time Saturday night, although if enough Blender users show up, it could turn into a pretty decent meet-up.
