Durian DVD available for pre-ordering

durianLike all open projects by the Blender Foundation, project Durian will be partially financed pre-selling the movie, it’s assets and extensive documentation and (video-) training material on DVD. If you pre-order before september 15th your name will also appear in the movie’s credits!

The Durian blog now has a cool live sales-thermometer to see how they’re doing. Did you order a copy yet?

    @Jeff – too early to say about the blu ray either way. Rest assured we will make it known on the blog if it does become an option.

    Can’t wait to see all the improvements that come from this project. I am pacing the ceiling with excitement looking forward to 2.5, even though I know it will take some time to do all that amazing coding work.

    @RedBirdiii: Me too, I don’t understand.
    Could we have a blu-ray version with a code to download the models and cie on our computer?

    Hi all,

    The Blu-ray of ED & BBB was independently produced by Imagion in Germany, and kindly offered to us for resale. Unfortunately the process of mastering and reproduction of this format is tedious and not commonly available yet. Only few companies do this right now, at quite high expenses. The advantage of DVD is that we can do it simply all in-house, and have a medium nearly everyone can read. Blu-ray still is only available at a quite small percentage of computers.

    When we’re getting close to final, I’ll definitely try to get a Blu-ray version arranged too. HD is simply so much better than this stupid PAL or NTSC format… and a dual layer Blu-ray can hold 50 GB, sufficient to put a load of extras on!

    OK.. I’ll order the DVD version.. but I have a request..
    I would like to have the MP4 HD version inside the DVD compatible with Playstation 3, please!
    Thank you!

  • paulica

    Thank a ton, Ton! :)

  • Mathias

    If you only would add the movie in a decent HD format. AVI has do die quickly and mov is obsolete as well. At least use MP4 encoded with x264 (by a skilled person) with AAC audio or store it – as I prefere – in mkv and add FLAC sound.
    I would have bought BBB if it had that feature. But if I know I have download a copy of the movie anyway, I don’t buy an inferior version…
