Spotted by Syndic3d:

Fixstars Co. (based in Japan) and Broadcast International produces hardware and  software for broadcast video encoding; using the Cell processor as its core feature to encode HD videos. They have just released the Codecsys CE-10 in the U.S. The CE-10 directly connects a Windows-based workstation to a Playstation 3 (PS3); utilizing the PS3 as a co-processor to encode HD videos.

How does this relate to Blender?

In the gallery section of the Codecsys website, Fixstars has used short scenes from "Elephants Dream," and "Big Buck Bunny" as examples of what the CE-10 can

do. As far as I know, Fixstars hasn't announced a Linux version of Codecsys CE-10. But the CE-10 uses Yellow Dog Linux to run on the PS3 to connect to a Windows-based machine (via Gigabit Ethernet cable).

Spotted by Daniel Rentzsch aka TABASCO:
I tried out the Moblin Beta a few days ago. It includes the full Big Buck Bunny movie as example for the video player (as well as a small self-recorded video of kittens).

  1. i recently spotted big buck bunny on the cover of the dutch magazine "computer idee" i'm subscribed to. they use big buck bunny more often as an example there.

  2. the Microsoft Silverlight one is quite exciting for the simply fact that Microsoft has a huge audience and even if only a tiny fraction of them decided to explore the tech of Silverlight, that's still a lot of traffic that could ultimately be turned to Blender after Googling around for more info on this intriguing mini film they just watched.

  3. I just recently found Blender on one of the computer monitors in Half-Life 2.

I got the Orange Box yesterday, and was staring at the screen for 5 minutes in Doctor Kleiner's lab because of it.
