Showreel: Matray

Almost every 3D stuff on my demoreel is made with blender, this is the 3D software that use most. Except for the Maped commercial (the orange and yellow one with the big blue pen and the skater wich was made in 3DS max)

I really enjoy Blender a lot, so much that I’m starting to use blender’s shortcuts (like “G”, “S” keys) in other software…

As a 2D artist at first, I learn 3D essentially by using Blender, and I liked a lot the Node part because it’s a time saver and a pretty usefull tool for the rendering. It makes me work on the essential aspects of the image, and simplify a lot the render technics for me.

The weird black insect for the “suite noire” title sequence in my reel is straight from blender, there is no other software used. As in the sony stuff (pink background computer) and all the bunny shots. You can also check the bunny animation I’ve made which also is straight from blender, and that’s really what I enjoy a lot in this software (along with the opensource aspect) is that you can finalize your animations. No need to use another 2D software and to render a lot of image sequences or a huge Open EXR file…

Also I want make it use more in my professional environment (in the French post-production) and I’m glad to see that there are some, over the world, starting to work with it like Promotion studios with Kajimba or Jellibots.

Finally, I’m hoping for the best for the 2.49 and especially for the 2.50 (like improvement of the photon mapping for some GI, the animation system upgrade, and all the new operator and generic data API parts…) to start using a new and even more better blender !

And for me there’s a lot going on, with a project with the rabbit and a lot of others characters in a short TV show. Still is a project for now but I’m hoping for the best and I will be pleased if I can manage to contact other professionnal CG artists using blender in France if this project starts for good !

Thanks a lot for your consideration,

Bye
Mathieu
