The HandsOn project of the Department of Media Technology at the Helsinki University of Technology is researching optical tracking and 3D user interfaces for modeling and animation. They make heavy use of Blender to test new concepts in user interaction in virtual 3D environments, and have published videos of their work so far.

Blender at SIGGRAPH Asia 2008

Two Blender presentations are planned for SIGGRAPH Asia 2008, which is from December 10-13: 'Migrating and Integrating Blender into your Pipeline' by Victor Yap, and 'Blender Education and Certification' by Tony Mullen. Details on Blender.org.

Animation Mentor has released a sneak peek of its Tips & Tricks eBook in Spanish. The eBook, written by Shawn Kelly, cofounder of Animation Mentor and senior animator at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), includes a foreword by Animation Mentor Cofounder and Pixar animator Carlos Baena who is a native of Spain. The eBook complements the Animation Tips & Tricks blog, which is hosted by Kelly and also features other professional animators. The full version of the book will be available in December.
