Willian presentation is a must see…
Did the GLSL presentation given by Pablo get recorded? I think it took place in the 2nd room, not the main presentation area.
I highly recommend the “The evolution of Blenders User Interface” by William Reynish. It is brilliant and if the Blender developers implement it the way he says, it will greatly improve the usabillity and ease of use of Blender. Ton also floated the idea of a ‘low level’ UI and a Python scripted high-level UI. I don’t think there should be two UI’s or even different UI’s (one for noobs and one for experts) like William said. A good UI works for both noobs and experts alike!
If do agree that Python develops a lot faster (I program in both C++ and C# and I’m much, much more productive with C#) so I would consider that a plus given the limited developer resources the Blender Foundation has access to.
well people I’m leaving for awhile maybe 6 month to a year,and it have been a pleasure to share alot I will keep watching now and than……………………..Cheer! good blending!!

In spite of certain fluctuations in the sound volume this year’s videos are the best ever, quite understandable without having to strain ourselves. ;)

the UI interface video was really good, a must see (?!). i didn’t think i was going to watch any of them whole the way through. i failed… :P :D
not again a ui discusion the ui is good as is, let it be changable trough python so we can see a stop to this endless moaning for a maya like ui. Tons ideer is good dont sacrevice speed for looks. If some ui changes proof to be better in the python version, they can then always be included in the main program.
I totally agree that William’s presentation is great.
What Ton said about that Blender could be a “tool to make tools” is interesting. So it should be possible to make a puppet for the animator or an easily configurable shader for those who are responsible of texturing. In some extent it is possible all ready (rigs) but that could be pushed further.
These are great! Thanks for putting them up on the web for those of us who could not attend. Also the quality of the video and sound is so much better this year! I can hardley wait to see the rest of them. Also, It was great to see how Blender is being used in science and I plan to forward these to the science teachers in the area.

Wow, the Modo community didn’t like that!
Nothing in the presentation was meant as an insult to Modo – I think it has one of thest UIs in the industry. The mention of Modo in the presentation was merely about making the point that Blenders UI has some good design at its core – design elements that it shares with apps like Modo and others.
The mention of Photoshop CS4 was made to show a trend in the industry towards a subdivision-based layout.

William don’t worry about it. The Modo users are just envious and we’ll be laughing all the way to the bank when Luxology is bought by Adobe and hardly ever updated again. Or when Luxology introduces yet another upgrade with a few extra features which it should have had from day one and makes their users pay through their noses.
All these commercial programs seem merely a distraction to me. They rise, then they stall or get bought by some other company and then they founder and their users jump some other ship and the whole thing starts over. Open source is something eternal, not to mention cost effective.

I own Modo, I love Modo. But I think Blender has a brighter future to be honest. I am moving to Blender slowly.
