Making of Grapes

Lucas Veber recently wrote a 'making of' tutorial for his photo realistic image entitled 'Grapes' from a while back.

Lucas Explains:

"I was really inspired by Ratatouille from the Pixar studios when I decided to make this picture, because I had never done any realistic renders of food before and I thought it would be an interesting task. Moreover, the new Subsurface Scattering shader had just been added to Blender so it was also exciting to try it out!"

Otavio Tatasoka has hosted the tutorial on his site, Blender Total, which has both the English and Portugues versions of the tutorial available.

Last night, I was blown away by the endless expanse of a level in Halo 3… land and sky stretching as far as the eye can see in every direction… and today I'm blown away by two bunches of grapes on a table. It's amazing how the scale of a work doesn't play into its quality at all.

    Idea:

maybe the tree wizard from Peach/BBB, could be used. But with grapes instead of leaves.

Hey, that caught my eye too, and I am delighted to see you sharing the method used to produce the shader. Grapes aren't the only food that looks a lot more realistic using Sub-Surface-Scattering, so some tutorial material to get us started is extremely welcome. I hope to adapt this for other things too.

    Thank you!
