2.47 Game Engine : New Features Information

Confused with some of the new 2.47 features?? Or just want to know more details?

Luckily there’s a new sticky thread on Blenderartists.org, which will set any nagging questions straight.

It covers the following features (listed below), with links in greater detail explaining each.

  • The new State Machine + tutorial
  • New Actuators/Sensors (with a good focus on the new motion actuator setup)
  • Dupligroups
  • IPO Actuator changes
  • New Controllers (NAND, NOR, XOR, XNOR)
  • GameLogic.globalDict

Check out the thread here, and feel free to submit any new features that haven’t been covered yet.

    It’s good to know that there is a feature list.
    Though I do wonder why there is no GLSL support in 2.47.

    Thank you! I haven’t had time to check the BlenderArtists forums for information about the new features yet and you just saved me the trip.

    @AniCator:
    i recon GLSL is not official yet (maybe needs optimization) and so it wasn’t included.
    if you still want it, you can get it from graphicall.org

    I guess I should download 2.47 soon, I read it fixed the bumpmap-bug. I was already wondering why it didn’t work in some cases, but never thought of a bug -_-

    Btw, is there maybe some kind of update-program? With the (relatively) many new releases of Blender, I have to download & install the newer, and then delete the older, watching carefully not to delete any files. Is there a way to have Blender “upgrade” its current version?

    I already have GLSL. :P

    @ Sven

    Im not sure that you can get it to ‘upgrade’, but usually i leave the past versions of Blender on my computer. They dont take up much space, and you might need to go back to a previous version sometime for any number of reasons. But, when a new version of blender is installed, it becomes the default version for opening .blend files.

    I’ve had to do it that way on my Mac as well, but if you’re using Windows, I believe the installer does what you want. I don’t know about Linux… probably apt-get will preserve your settings and whatnot. That’s assuming 2.47 is even in the repositories yet…

    I usually overwrite the old files instead of deleting them first.

    i know this is a random place to ask this…

    but what is happening with 2.50??? and the render export api as well…(reportedly it was a gsoc project)?

    is there a forum post somewhere or does Ton keep a secret blog somewhere or something?

    :)

    I thought 2.47 was a bugfix release only!

    Great to see some new features!

  • Ravbhara

    @Hectichermit
    Blender has supported GLSL for quite some time, its just required a python script etc. Now, after Apricot, its being made more easily accessible for users.
