Making Photo-Realistic Lego Bricks in Blender
(submitted by Jordan Harris) Knowing a lot about a piece of software is one thing, but being able to explain it clearly and concisely through a tutorial is another.
William Chamberlin has recently released a fabulous tutorial on creating a realistic render of LDraw bricks. (LDraw is a virtual library of 3D LEGO parts) It’s well-written and easy to follow, so check it out.
Tour of SIGGRAPH 2008 Expo center and art exhibits
I put together a video tour of the SIGGRAPH 2008 Expo and some of the electronic art to try a give those of you who have never experienced SIGGRAPH a taste of it. The Expo is like a one giant collage of colors and sounds of technology. A place where art and technology collide. The video opens with a walk through some of the vendor exhibits in the early morning before most of the people arrive. It later then comes alive with the buzz of the exhibitors and attendees followed with some of the art.

Summer of Code Shrinkwrap Modifier Project
(Submitted by Chris Want) How do you ensure that your Suzanne heads stay fresh and crispy for longer? If André Susano Pinto has his way, it will be done using his Shrinkwrap modifier! André (aka jaguarandi) is developing this modifier as part of his Google Summer of Code project. Alright, maybe this modifier won’t keep your Suzanne heads fresh, but it is particularly suited for shaping clothing for models, among other applications.
Final 20 days of Apricot
There’s only 20 days left of the Apricot project (Yo Frankie!). Venomgfx (Pablo) has posted a new blog on the Apricot site regarding the plans for the final few weeks.
There’s also a call for documentation/tutorial ideas to be included on the DVD, along with a list of ideas already thought up by the team for us to get excited about, so get on over to the blog and let them know what you’d like to see!

Birds of a Feather cont. . .
It was a packed audience for all of the Blender B.O.F.s but especially for the Apricot gaming segment. It was so crowded, that people were sitting in the isles and standing at the door into the hallway.
