Birds of a Feather cont. . .

Los Angeles, California U.S.A

It was a packed audience for all of the Blender B.O.F.s but especially for the Apricot gaming segment. It was so crowded, that people were sitting in the isles and standing at the door into the hallway.

Here are some other pictures and short videos from the day.  The last is of the BBB crew at the making of Big Buck Bunny.  A tidbit I learned. Per Sacha, the Big Buck model was designed with the late actor, John Candy,  in mind. As in the Uncle Buck movie.

Am I the only one who gets nervous around Siggraph time that Ton will get an amazing offer from one of the heavyweights and leave the BF?

    I'm jealous :D
Having so much fun at work should be a sin…

    @ ardee
Think of Python creator. Guido van Rossum. http://www.python.org/~guido/

He created Python. He delegated python development but still has a big influence on it.
He says he works for Google now. And he still get to toy with Python half of the time.

Like having the cake and eating it too.

Agreed, Google is no Autodesk. But that shows it's possible to be in a corporation and nurture personal projects. :p

And don't minimize the role of the other developers of blender as they do a great job. I'm sure some knows more about the source code than Ton, but they are too modest to say it aloud :D

The worst case scenario would be if all developers (and by all I mean absolutely ALL) are gathered in the same place and :
    - A plane crash violently on the gathering place
    - or they are in the plane that crash violently
    - or they decided to immolate themselves for some mystic reason

This would set the development back until some wiz coding kids get the hang of Blender source code (6 months if we are optimistic, more if we are not)

By all mean, it's true one can have some fear over the robustness of the Blender staff. If Blender is to become a widely used tool for professional usage, we can wonder what would happen "if".

@aws357 - lucky we have the source code then :)

Blender development is safeguarded by the code being open. That said, the speed of development lately has been super fast, every other OpenSource program must be jealous.

I look forward to the day when Blender has become its own operating system :P

Not directly related, but whatever happened to Plumiferos? Seems like that project, and any blender foundation connection with it, is dead.

Great to see the photos! I recognize a few faces in there. Glad to see there was a good turn out throughout the day! I'll be looking forward to seeing more throughout the week! I'm so excited for the new content and I'm kicking myself for not being able to make it. :D Have a good time!

Bravo! Thanks for the update, Tim! Nice marble animations there with the fluid splash and the breaking glass. Also, nice domino effect with the gravity.

How did they do that! It's amazing! When will we be able to do something like that?

  9. 9 Thomas Edit Link

that's awesome, especially the marble one. Is that a script fot the shattering marble, or will that be a new feature?

Dingo_aus, "I look forward to the day when Blender has become its own operating system" :P I don't, because as much as it would be better than microsoft, blender is blender, not an OS.

@Slowboy: "Birds of a feather, flock together." is how the saying goes…

Heh, thanks Reuben, I get that - I just thought maybe it was some title for some new Blender tech or something.
    Cheers :]
