Brandon Phoenix - aka Dim on Blenderartists.org has completed a huge document detailing the many aspects of Video Games. The document is a great reference and learning tool for anyone interested in the field of game development, no matter what level of experience.

Although not directly related to Blender its definitely a must read for any Blenderhead looking to improve their knowledge and skills using blender as a platform for creating games.

The document discusses many topics, including:

  • Concept
  • Basic Properties of Games
  • Filters
  • Animation types
  • Graphics Pipeline
  • Lighting/Shaders
  • Normal maps/Parallax Occlusion
  • Reflections
  • And much more.

Theres also a handy Glossery and huge selection of links for further, more detailed reading.

You can read it on this page or the blenderartists thread here (now a sticky).

    trapped about the question .
I want start with how to create a nice art design for a 2d game .
Menus ,buttons ,effects ,,,but then back again to notting ,
trapped about the question ,how to program the idea ,
then paint all the effects at the screen …

This was an excellent address. I just finished reading it and hope that Brandon Phoenix, continues to write. I learned a lot and although I have not done much with games either playing or making, I have an entirely new respect for them.
