I wanted to write a quick note to let everybody know that my advance copies of "Bounce, Tumble, and Splash! Simulating the Physical World with Blender 3D" have arrived, and I'm very excited with how they've turned out! I've taken a few snapshots and posted them here on Flickr to give people a sense of what the book looks like on the inside:

For those who don't know, BTAS is a new book which covers Blender's physical simulation capabilities: rigid bodies, fluids, soft bodies, cloth, new particles (including boids), hair, and many others. It's fully up-to-date for 2.46 and I think it will really help bring these powerful features to a wider audience. If you haven't already seen the video teaser on YouTube, please check it out to get more of a sense of what the book covers: Amazon still lists the book as being available on July 8, but they will sell it as soon as they get it, so it could be any day now. Already they have several "New and Used" listed as being available from other sellers: In addition to tutorials and examples, the book also contains profiles of notable users and developers, which I thought would be nice to give people a better sense of who some of their fellow Blenderheads are. Hope you enjoy the book! Tony

Yes, can we have an affiliate link or something so that we can support blendernation directly?

Am waiting on that to pull out the credit card..

    I can't wait - I've had this on pre-order *forever*!
Fingers crossed that it'll be relatively typo-free.

Just put in an order for Barnes@Noble. They say ship in 24hours and none available in my zipcode. But can't wait to try out what is really available with 2.46 and the new systems. :)

FYI, I pre-ordered this from Amazon.com months ago, and I just received an e-mail from them stating that it has shipped. So it really looks like it is out now!

  22. 22 John R. Nyquist Edit Link

Whoo hooo! I got an email from Amazon saying it is shipping.

Oddly, the same day I ordered "Bounce, Tumble, and Splash!", I also ordered "Blender 3D Architecture, Buildings, and Scenery", which was "in-stock" when I ordered, but right now has a shipping estimate of June 26th. I really expected to get it before "Bounce, Tumble, and Splash!". Oh well, it's win-win, I'm happy to have one of them on the way!

And this afternoon I got an email from Amazon saying "Blender 3D Architecture, Buildings, and Scenery", cool!

  24. 24 mjordan Edit Link

Why this book is not available on the blender e-shop?

  25. 25 Tony Edit Link

mjordan, I'm afraid I don't know much about that. Ton deals with the publisher directly on those matters, but I have requested that some sample copies be sent to the Blender Foundation for them to have a look at it. I think the decision will depend on whether it's cost effective for the book to be sold there, since it is published in America and must be shipped to the Netherlands first and then shipped again from the Netherlands. I'd be very pleased to have it sold at the e-shop myself. We'll have to see how it works out.

Just received in post! :) Will put a review on Blenderartists coming soon.

    Hi Tony,
i live in Tokyo too, and i saw that your book on amazon.co.jp will be available in July 5th :
    http://www.amazon.co.jp/Bounce-Tumble-Splash-Simulating-Physical/dp/0470192801/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=english-books&qid=1214407878&sr=8-1

Your other book is great, so the new one it's already mine ^_-!!!

I'm amped to get this book! Just got to wait for my sister to send it to me from the UK…
Shipping to South Africa from Amazon is ridiculous - and by that I mean the shipping would have cost almost twice as much as the book…

  29. 29 Tony Edit Link

@Kawa, another Tokyo Blender user, great! Are you registered in blender.jp? Several of us have often talked about holding some kind of Blender-related event in Japan. I'd love to do something like that.

Hopefully BTAS will be out in Japanese eventually, but I don't know yet what the story is with that.

  30. 30 Kawa Edit Link

@Tony, of course i'm registered in blender.jp, but i'm not japanese (just like you).

About a some kind of Blender-related event, i'm on hand too because can be a great opportunity! ;-)

I think a priority target will be the Anime industry; i saw often they have Lightwave and Maya for 3d, and brake in can be a big step! Blender have a lack in cell shading and edges rendering, but in the other side this problem is easy to be gone around.

This is a very good book.

I am presently working my way through the book and am finding it ok to follow and well written.

I have recommended this book to several people without hesitation.

I look forward to more blender books.
