B-24 Liberated!
Fweeb reported back in April about how TurboSquid had been served with DMCA takedown requests for 3D models. Well good news from the EFF regarding the B-24
The central mark at issue was the term “B-24,†which Lockheed managed to register as a trademark for use in connection with scale models of airplanes. We sent an open letter to Lockheed’s licensing agency, demanding that they withdraw their improper objections. We’re pleased to report that Lockheed has decided to withdraw its claim, and TurboSquid is putting the images back up forthwith.

Indeed, I guess in a lawlery way, those models on turbosquid are not physical models but visual representations of their airplanes.
Heh! Teach me to be a smart arse about this (see my comments on that post), but I’m happy to see the little guy come through on this, and I’m happy to be proven wrong. :)

Did really confinced me that lockheed released the form of the object.
Seems they claimed the word “B-24”, which in my view is dumb because it stands for Bomber 24.
Thats like claiming you own W.C. just because you made a toilet.
However… I could protect a specific toilet I made from being released as a model in turbo squid…
Anyway… then there is the issue of fair use… I dont see how TS can control this but still are held responsible.
Thats like saying gun shop owners are responsible for all the dead kids being shot at schools, I don’t hear many Americans complain about that…
