We reported in out previous article about ATI Slowdowns Now MattD tells us there is a new catalyst driver has been released which seems to put object selection in blender in an usable state again. He wrote a thread about it at BlenderArtists.org

Nice to see that problem finally fixed :D

    On a related note:
Anybody got experience with newer 3D cards from ATI with Blender?
Would be nice to hear from people if the new (open source) driver are working already.
Last time I checked 3D support was only really supported for R500 cards (and even that is pretty recent) or am I wrong?

I myself use a pretty outdated Nvidia card, so I have zero experience with ATI cards for 3D work.

We are having some problems with Nvidia Drivers too. In the Internal benchmarking provided by Blender, With older drivers, the card seems to fly about 20.000 points ( Nvidia 6800 ), With New drivers, a mere 4.000. I’ve got rid of the new slow drivers and continue using my lovely old one.

According to ATI there is nothing wrong with their open gl drivers, its just my computer setup. They’ve been telling for two years now. So I’m a bit surpirsed they fixed something that supposedly didn’t need fixing. I just tried it and I noticed also there are no dash, dash lines anymore either?

    Kirk has a horse?

I can’t wait until we’re all using gallium, kernel mode setting, and DRI2….
That is going to rock. No more waiting on companies to fix their driver problems.
