Fresh Blender News, Every Day
I am and ELT student and a Blender user nearly for 3 years. I created this web site to help make Turkish Blender users aware of Blender3d world, and I translate www.BlenderNation.com news daily, and also I am translating the BlenderArt Magazine as much as I can, besides my lessons.
Just a little over two years after the release of Elephants Dream, the Blender Institute have today released their second phenomenal accomplishment: Big Buck Bunny. Aimed at further developing Blender by providing it with great new animation tools and high-end fur rendering (both available in the recently released Blender 2.46), it will undoubtably put both Blender and Open Source in general on the radar of more 3D hobbyists and professionals around the world.
You will find in-depth information about the project on their new website www.bigbuckbunny.org, and more importantly, you can download both the full version of the movie in HD quality and all the production files right now!
To everyone involved: respect!
Something's afoot on peach.blender.org, and we all know what :-)

One of the coolest scripts that came along with Blender 2.46, is the Trees From Curves. This script was developed for the Peach Project, to create trees and brushes. If you want to know the basics of how this script works, Ideasman42 has produced a video tutorial, showing the basics to create a tree model.

I was in need of a snow material for a current project when I remembered the Blender Materials site. I hadn't been there in quite a while and I found exactly what I needed for this project. It saved me a lot of time. There's quite an impressive collection of FREE materials. I also noticed on thier home page that they have celebrated their first anniversary this month. So Congratulations and hats off to you all at Blender Materials for an outstanding job and collection.
Sebastian König has posted some great timelapse modeling and rendering sessions that are available at vimeo for your viewing pleasure. I particularly enjoyed the timelapse for the foxglove challenge. And remember if you are a member of vimeo you can download the original video files.

Renderdemon has posted up an incredible hair test on Blenderartists. I'd say its Blendernation praiseworthy. Nice work renderdemon. Some good screenshot eyecandy as well.
Apart from the fact that Blender is extremely good software, I also view it as a very strong enabling technology: Blender is able to provide people – who would normally not be able to afford 3D training – the opportunity to start a career in 3D.
Most of Africa falls in the above category. Therefore, when I was recently invited as a Blender Foundation Certified Trainer to present a 7-day introductory Blender workshop in Nigeria, I decided to go despite rumours about the country – and was pleasantly surprised by what I experienced there at ground level…
