Fresh Blender News, Every Day
Blender users wonder where they can leave their feature request. Also, I have a feeling that there are some Blender developers out there who would be interested in knowing what the 'most requested features' are. Blenderstorm to the rescue!

Here's a use for Blender that you haven't seen before: the Great Northern Way Campus in Vancouver, BC, Canada, has been quietly working with Blender and the Blender Game Engine to produce scientific data visualizations on the effect of fishing policy on fish populations. In addition, they're looking for summer interns who can work with Blender.

Version 0.46 of the open-source vector application has been released, and it has a pretty strong set of new features. I've used this program a fair deal myself, and I have to say that this update (or application in general) is a must-have. Do take your time to download and experience inkscape for the first time if you haven't used it before, or enjoy the new features if you're a more experienced user.
Boring site update: we upgraded our WordPress installation to the latest version. If run into any weirdness (new weirdness, that is ;-) let us know!
Interesting site update: we now support Gravatars. To have your gravatar shown in your comments (see my comment below), sign up on Gravatar.com and create an account.
Pablo Vazquez [VenomGFX] will be joining the Apricot team next week as their new Lead artist. Former lead artist Qareeb left the project for personal reasons. Adding Pablo to the team should definitely increase the project's wackiness! With some luck, he'll be in Amsterdam just in time to be at the Peach Premiere. Looking forward to meet you there, Pablo!!

Blender offers so much in one package that it's always tempting to see what else it can do. "handlebar", from the CGTalk forums, has found two very clever ways to quickly create excellent iris textures using Blender and was kind enough to create short video tutorials demonstrating the techniques.

From Ben Hodges: "I'm just writing to help spread the word about this year's Trainings on Open Source Multimedia Instruments or TOSMI. TOSMI is a part of MEDIA, the European Union's support programme for the European audiovisual industry and is designed to introduce media professionals to the benefits and possibilities of an open source pipeline in audio-video production.
