New Hangar No. 5 Trailer

"Two treasure-hunting teens sneak into an abandoned military base looking for a rumored gold cache. Once inside, they accidentally activate a top secret relic of the Cold War - a huge mobile weapons system bent on protecting the base from all intruders. Cut off from every exit, the pair must fight to survive."

Hangar No. 5 is an action-packed short film featuring Talan Torriero from Laguna Beach and Charity Shea from The Best Years. Produced by Northwestern University undergraduate students, Hangar No. 5 was shot during October 2007 around the Chicagoland area. The film will premier in June 2008.

Director Nathan Matsuda writes:

We've just uploaded the brand-new official trailer for "Hangar No. 5" at www.hangarmovie.com. This is the trailer for the actual film, not to be confused with the fund-raising trailer featured on blendernation about a year and half ago.

We shot "Hangar No. 5" in October, 2007 (you can see some photos from set on the website) with a crew of around 100 undergraduate students from Northwestern University and an exciting cast featuring Talan Torriero of MTV's "Laguna Beach" fame, and Charity Shea from "Alpha Dog" and "The Best Years". The entire film was shot during an extremely hectic 4 day period at a decommissioned Navy base outside of Chicago. Since then I've been working around the clock on the visual effects, which consist of more than 80 shots throughout the 10 minute film.

We're using Blender for modeling, rigging, shading, animation, and rendering (renderfarm time provided by Jacob Picart and Remnant Studios). The effects are a huge undertaking but we're aiming to complete the film in early June. In the mean time, we'll be updating the website with behind-the-scenes videos so check back to learn more about the film.

    Now that really looks great! I just regret that it's so short but the trailer does its job - leaves you determined to see the whole movie!

    This does look REALLY awesome. I had a look at the site, too. Looks like these guys know what they're doing - I particularly like the looks of the production crews' resumes.

    *Is jealous, because I would love to have a resume like that in a few years time……PIXAR - heck yeh!*

    Anyways, great job and looks like the final product will be a ripper.

    great work, nathan and his people look like they put in alot of time and hard work to make this project, i wonder what the budget was for the onscreen talent and what the location fees were

    Ok, I'm impressed. I've seen a lot of indie films and … honestly, they 99% of the time look like they had some cheap Radio Shack camcorder and some drunk hobos from down the street with signs that say "Will Act for Booze".

    But this, this looks quality. And with BLENDER .. that's pretty sweet.

    What video software is used for this? What about the particle effects?

    I'm pretty excited to see this - ESPECIALLY since it's Blender and shows the ability to make quality film with an open source software.

    Well done.

    Nice, except those 'boxes' that the mechanical leg knocks over look too CG.

    Pretty neat. I like how professional some of the shots look. The CG needs work to make it convincing.

    Looks like fun. One really minor point, why is the guy lighting his cigarette if it is already lit (check the smoke rising from it when the floodlight comes on)

    @ ccherrett: I love when people think that something is CG, but it's real ;)
    Some on BA forurms when they complain about bad lightning, etc and then…it's a real photo ;)

    I can imagine how hectic *that* would be. :) Whenever my friends and I try to make a ten minute movie we have to do it all in about a day (we now live states apart and can only film on visits).

    This is extreme… I mean, it's intense… very good SFX, for an indie production. I am impressed. A lot better than that horror flick… I'm not a zombie fan. Anyway, the film looks great in the area of special effects. I don't mean to be negative, but the story sounds like it could stand screenwriter's boot camp… and there's almost no story in the trailer, but what should I expect with 30 seconds of footage?
    Too few plots these days… but yeah, I like it otherwise. A lot.

    Cool! I remember hearing about this film a long while back - i'm happy to see that it's going the whole 9 yards.
