As you may know, Bassam Kurdali's excellent ManCandy FAQ DVD is published (like everything else the Blender Institute produces) under a Creative Commons license. Among other things, this means you're free to distribute or download it. Some people did this and the reactions were, well, not good. I talked to Bassam to find out how he felt about us offering download links.

Following up on Endi's Sculpt tool tutorial earlier this week, Frederik Storm has published a highly detailed character modelling tutorial. It's an intermediate-level tutorial, so you may first want to learn some basic concepts by digging around this site (see the related post and search function) or the Blender Documentation Wiki.

Kerkythea Echo has been released. If you haven't heard of Kerkythea its a flexible and powerful free rendering engine now capable of ray tracing, Photon Mapping and Metropolis Light Transport.

While you can't see the movie yet, you can now at least put a bunny-sized poster over your bed! Just grab the new press kit from the Peach site. Oh, and you'll need a bunny-sized printer as well, I guess ;-)

It's great that Blender is really starting to be used for more animation! Here are three animations created by David Ward.

(Chicago, IL) - ACM SIGGRAPH officially announced the opening of submissions for FJORG! - the International Animation Contest taking place at the upcoming SIGGRAPH conference, 11 through 15 August 2008 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
FJORG! is an "iron animator" event in which competing teams from around the world have 32 hours to create a 15-second, character-driven animation while adhering to at least one of two themes and facing multiple distractions. The online submission system is now open and submission and uploaded materials are due by 7 May 2008. Submissions are open to the public.

Endre Barath [endi] sent in this tutorial on how to create organic models using multi-res meshes and the sculpt tool.
Cory Taylor and Jeremiah Warren are working on an animated short film called 'The Filthy Spoon'. It'll be produced almost completely in Blender and while they're working on it they're maintaining a production journal. It's interesting stuff to follow.
