Blender.org Sites Down

Just a quick heads-up: the Blender.org servers (including download.blender.org, ElephantsDream.org, the Peach and Apricot sites) have been down since last night. We're not sure what's wrong as all the people with admin access are on holiday at the moment, but we're counting on some remote assistance tomorrow.
Update: huzzah! The sites are back!

Since that's my homepage I thought that my WiFi internet was down last night but apparently it was Blender.org.
I bet its some conspiracy of the 3d industry… they got scared of what Blender is becoming and now theay are trying to stop us! Or maybe its Steve Ballmer aka Monkeyboy trying to stop "the cranker of the digital world" (thats how he called open source). He he… but they will fail!

I hope there's no connection with the recent BlenderNation issue.
@Kernon: I don't think so; the symptoms are very different and we use different applications / application versions there. We probably forgot to feed the trained hamsters!

To get the server back online, try:

Oh there not really on vacation! Autodesk and Avid have joined forces to bring down the free world. Come on it had to happen. LOL

Don't think so. They really have their own challenges … SVN doing very well. Who knows? Maybe next time a Xmas-Bunny will jump out of the screen? =)

Thankfully the projects server seems to be functioning - though the loss of the wiki is somewhat annoying…
Nice image… The funny thing is, I can just imagine Blender running on a C64 (with Linux), when all other 3D Programs are giving errors about the lack of a mouse :P

Methinks its time to upgrade the server to a 386, there's not a lot you can do with a c64, even when it's on fire. You'd think it'd make things load faster, but alas, no. That was one of the first things I tried.

So the upgrade from cassette tape to the 1541 disk drive was successful?
48 hours of downtime (without a real problem actually) is pretty impressive for one of the world's most important open source projects. Get an agenda :)
@Carl: you talk about things that you know nothing about. You don't know the cause of the problem, and you don't know why people weren't there. Get a life.
I know people at autodesk blender is not even on the radar. "which is a good thing". Once something is done about the UI where the average Professional artist can pick it up and use it with out having to completly relearn everything it will dominate. Autodesk will never know what hit them.
Gee I was just joking. Oh well.

Commodore64…, mmm, 'we' had also a matching monitor… I was still too young to afford any of it, but my dad brought stuff like that… I also remember a white VIC20, looking exactly like the C64.
I do have alot of memories on this hardware BASIC-interpreter, some is the sqeeky sound of the cassetterecorder loading the program, this before the floppy came along which still made quite a sound…, but what I probably never forget is the planegame BlueMax… and of course my own silly stuff, 'roads made of the '*'- or '|'-sign'…

Would the helicopter 'Apache-crash' have something todo with the server going off-line?…
The site, and downloads were down due to a D-DOS attack targeting our servers. Based on the log files it seems the IP address of the attackers were none other then Autodesk, the makers of AutoCAD, Maya and 3ds max. We will investigate this matter and contact police. Sorry for any problems this may have caused to the community.

NielsBlender, ya I compliment any opensource project that allows me to do what I have to. Compared to the $35,000 or whatever for Maya. My PC-BSD box, with OpenOffice and Blender is secure, stable and free! Anyway I am just glad the site is back up because I needed to install Windows versions on my company's workstations.
Bart: I know that having a massive downtime on important servers is a pain in the ass. However, if the reasons for the massive downtime were known / publicized (maybe in this article), there would at least be a chance for people to understand and thus be more forgiving. So, what was the cause of the downtime? One can easily get the impression that if nothing is publicized about the reasons, someone must be ashamed of them and thus be afraid to publish :)
@Carl: nobody is unforgiving except for you. I don't know the cause - haven't had the chance to check in with the team. All you do is spread FUD. Get a life.

This whole debacle reminds me of when youtube went down for maintenance, and they posted a message saying "all your video are belong to us", and people thought that youtube had been hacked.
As a result, they later added the message "No, we haven't been hacked. Get a sense of humor."
Computers aren't perfect, sites go down now and again. Lets try not to freak out.
I agree with Carl Complaint ( I thought I'd never say that ), let the community know what the downtime was about. I mean before this turns into a flame war. We are all running around with our heads chopped off at the moment! Anyways I do think Bart will keep us updated so until then let there be some peace.

Well Carl Complaint it looks like we may not get an answer on this issue. Guess I'll get a life too. I will not be posting on this board anymore until, and if Bart writes an update after finding out what the problem exactly was. Until then I just go on thinking it was an NSA/FBI/Autodesk… cover-up ala 9/11.
Is anyone getting a message "500 - Internal Server Error" at blender.org? Despite the update saying that it is back up, it still seems to be down.
