Weightpaint uses a hardcoded range for visualizing weights. To allow users to have more accurate visualisations for what color represents what value, you can now edit a custom range for weights. Also, current Modifiers are a linear stack in Blender and are applied sequentially. With Multi Modifiers, you will be able to mix the results with a weight group.

The Australian band Tycho Brahe has posted a video on YouTube which uses a handfull of Blender animations in the background.

Ton Roosendaal presented the first architecture sketches for the upcoming Blender 2.50 during last week's Blender Developers meeting. He talks about things such as the new Model/View/Controller model and the new event handling model, both of which will make it much easier and cleaner to write new Blender functionality. 'Star Trek: Of Gods and Men' is an amazing project – officially a 'fan film', it is produced by a very professional group of people, including many cast members from the original TV series and movies (see the Wikipedia entry for ST:OGAM for more details on this). The first act (26 minutes) has been released last Saturday.
Of course, such a project leans heavily on special effects. We talked to Bill Thomas, Digital Effects Supervisor of ST:OGAM, and found out Blender played an important role in the production!
