I guess we should rename ourselves 'BlendernaZen' this week - that reflects the feeling I got when I first saw Otávio Tatasoka's entry to our 'Design the BlenderNation Header' contest. I really appreciate the tranquility of this one - I think it makes a great header (especially after the dynamic graphic of Gustav last week!). Congratulations, Otávio! Your image will be on the site until next week.
Over the last few weeks I've been quietly making a few technical changes to the site. For those of you who are interested in such things, I did a short writeup of my actions. If you couldn't care less about web technology, I'm still interested in hearing if you think the site's speed has improved!

This one's been our todo list for a while and the tutorial isn't too recent, but it's a nice technique to experiment with during the upcoming weekend.

All the 2007 Suzanne Awards Nominations videos are now available for download from blender.org. Enjoy!
An artist called Cristian Mihaescu has created a really great image named Night of The Cat. This image was created with Blender, Gimp and Inkscape. And now we can check out some of the techniques used to create "Night of the Cat", since Mr.Mihaescu was invited by the guys at 3dtotal to write an article about it, for their 3dcreative magazine.

This year's Suzanne Award winners have been announced last Saturday Night, and all the winners received a new and improved transparent Suzanne statue ('unbreakable', according to Ton ;-)
So far, none of the Conference's video material has been published to the web. From what I heard there were problems with the download.blender.org server - I'm hoping that as soon as that's solved all the material will be put online, including the full Suzanne Awards presentation.

Last week I invited all of you to design a new BlenderNation header and we received quite a few excellent entries. Today I made my first selection: it's the banner by Gustav the Mushroom. I selected it because it fits very well in the site design and I like the clean, mathematical 3D look. Congratulations Gustav! Your image will be on the site until next week.

Astute users of Microsoft 32-bit Windows may have noticed that Blender is never allowed to use more than 1.5 GB of memory. As Blender can often consume a lot of memory, this can be a severe limitation at times. In this short tutorial, user mpan3 explains what causes the issue, and how to correct it.
