Music Video: Tripeace

tripeace2.jpgDono, frenchman and friends have created an amazing 11-minute music video.

I had a chat with Denis about this production:

Why did you make this movie? Is it a personal, or commercial project?
Yes it is a personal project, just for fun. Initially, we just wanted to create a short film of 2 minutes, neither scenario without history, just for fun, give happy feelings, give pleasure through images, bright colors and simple style. We took great pleasure in these two minutes and it was added as up to 11 minutes to arrive!

Who did the music?
The music was made by three people, frenchman (my brother), josseman (a friend of my brother), and myself. We recorded all the instruments separately, the idea was to combine the sounds of acoustic (djumbe, didjeridoo, voices …) and electronic sounds. The original idea was to make a journey through time and space, a music about evolution. "Tripeace", it's "Trip" and "Peace":)

How many people were involved in the production?
Three people were involved in the creation of the music and two in the making of the movie. The characters were initially created with "modelling clay" and many friends have created a character :) We took pictures of the clay characters and used those to create the Blender models. I also wish to thank the entire community blender, which is very important and that has helped us a lot at the technical level!

Was this your first Blender project?
Yes it is the first real project with blender. I have already made many stills with blender, but nothing that tells a story. It was an opportunity to confront the problems of modeling and animation as they existed, and we have learned a lot !

View:

Yes, you can find some flaws in this animation but I found it interesting to notice that they didn't bother me at all. I've watched the entire thing three times now and I still enjoy everything about it; the music, the mood, the style and the goofy characters. Well done, team!

That is one of the best animations I have seen in a long time. It was almost mesmerizing.

The style was clean and consistent throughout the whole animation and very well synced.

How many mushrooms were consumed during the making of this animation?
It's funny and the style is consistend, though I think it could be shorter but with
    better models for example…

I'll skip the drug usage jokes, and just say it's impressive. Impressive use of colors, textures and lighting, very nice music(though a bit repetitive after the first 7 minutes). It sends a strong message that you don't have to be a kick ass modeler to do something great. It reminded me, colorwise of Robert Tiess' imagery.

Very very nice, and positive. And trippy.

    Hehe!! Brilliant music video!
Obviously as other people have said, the models aren't amazing, but I find that it really doesn't matter for something like this…
    The music is amazing too!!!

SUPER-COOL! whee! inspiring even. i really love the idea of simplifying forms, and the clay style is great. i can see some weak aspects to the models, in the form of polygon edges, and rough textures, but conceptually it works well. i was also rather concerned about the time investment for an animated short, but it was engaging, and my concerns were unfounded. kudos all around, excellent work!

Jean Claude Van Damme's quotes are popular as jokes in France, he's a source of 'inspiration' for many :-)

A very good film. Don't personally care for the clay/playdough look. Music could be better. Animation could use some work as well. Very nice effect with the swaying palm trees. Beautiful.
