Moonkiroe, a 2D Isometric Game Made with Blender

moonkiroe_mmorpg.jpgMoonkiroe is video game project, whose whole graphical parts are made with Blender. It is Massive Online Role Playing Game in isometric 2D view, using 3D renders as sprites. The core game itself is developed using GameMaker with some C help.

The Beta-testing of the game is open, and the game will be soon available for download from http://www.moonkiroe.com/, in a free demonstration flavor (both french and english version, only for Windows, unfortunately). This first beta campaign will let the players discover the game universe, but also to find and correct the bugs that will arise.

Once he game will be ready, the Beta-tesing will enter a second stage, with many more players. Then an official version of the game will be released if there are enough players.

In its final official version, the game will keep a 'free area' (as in free beer) unlimited in time, but probably limited in possibilites and gameplay.

If success is there, a few sequels could be foreseen. At first, an animated film would be released, and then turned into an animated series, settled in the universe of the game. Of course, the animated series would be made using Blender. The series staff would even re-use the 3D models built especially for the game (characters, environments, animations, etc.).

If you want to get involved in the beta-testing campaign, you can enrole yourself in the official forum: http://moonkiroe.fr-bb.com/

Here's a (rather small and compressed) video showing the art in-game:

At the moment, yes, the game is only for Windows (I am a Linux user myself) but they are discussing for a port to Linux too (which is difficult at the moment because the game tools they use is only available for Windows, but they are willing to recode the application once the beta-testing and the proof-of-concept of the game is done).

As far as I know, an english version is on its way, too. Here are all the information I have for the moment.

@noidtluom: this is a 2D game, made out of 3D renderings from Blender. You don't need an overkill computer to play this game, which should run fast and smoothly for everybody!

I must say that is one very tasty looking game. The graphics look complete and cohesive, overall a very mature looking project. My hats off to the team.

I'm not a MMORPG player, and have never even tried one before. But for Blender-Tribal-Emotional reasons, I just might give this one a go … at least the beta trial.

It's great to see more focused and driven people joining the Blender community. Projects like these are a lot of hard work and require a great amount of commitment. The fact that there are people out there willing to use Blender to achieve things like this raises the bar for the rest of us slackers (I claim my devine birthright to be King of Blender Slackerdom™®). Maybe this growing momentum will push more of us along into fruitful Blender creations.

    Hi

We are trying to translate the website (from french to english), but we are a little team (2 guys ;)), so the translation is not ready.

    I'm sorry for that.
I hope that, when the beta will be ready, we will have the time to have an English version for the website.

thank you for all your comments.

ps : in the title, it's not "mookiroe", but "moonkiroe" ;).

Speaking of MMORPGs, I'm pretty sure that Jagex (the creators of RuneScape) also use Blender, as that were looking for artists in a Blender Artists post about a year ago.

Blender games are always advancing. I think evencualy blender games will be known worldwide and will be emulating like real, professional pc games.

If you guys are thinking of rewriting the currently used engine ( so that it is cross-platform ), why not try to re-create it within Blender, using the built-in Games Engine?

That would allow for a totally integrated development environment!
