An inconspicuous post in our Event Calendar in February led to a flood of reactions: Karl Kühberger was organising a Blender Workshop in Vienna but it was meant only for teachers. Many Austrian Blender users were interested in attending such a workshop and now Karl is ready with the preparations to do just that!
Project Yellow?
Not too long ago, the Blender community was all abuzz with Project Orange excitement. In case you weren’t around, here’s a summary of events: a small team of Blender artists and animators got together in Amsterdam for several months. They created the world’s first open movie using mostly Blender and other open source software. Their results of their work? A short film lovingly known as “Elephants Dream,†as well as a number of badly needed Blender improvements.

Siggraph 2007: Birds of a Feather
I just received confirmation from Ton that there will be a Blender Birds of a Feather [BOF] meeting at Siggraph 2007 in San Diego. There’s not much info to share yet, except that it’s on Monday, August 6th in Room 29A.
French Comic Produced with Blender
Tase, from the French community BlenderClan has finished his first comic, and he’s about to show it to French editors. He did a great and entertaining work, and very stylish also.
PlaneShift Project Recruiting Blender Artists
Are you a Blender artist looking for a good project? If so, then take a look at PlaneShift, a free and open source MMORPG under heavy development. In case you’re not already familiar with the PlaneShift project, Wikipedia has some useful information:
PlaneShift is a cross-platform fantasy MMORPG in development. Client software is available for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. It is produced by a developer community, founded by Luca Pancallo, and guided by the Atomic Blue non-profit organization. The engine code is based on the Crystal Space engine and therefore free software. The content is released under another license.
Material Works script – Search & Replace materials, and more
Here’s a great time-saving tool created by Vaclav Chaloupka. It’s been created to allow fast searching of materials in a scene with the ability to easily replace them with another material. But, that’s not all it can do.
Blendiberia 2007
Blendiberia 2007 will be celebrated in Castellón de la Plana from the 13th to the 15th of April. Blendiberia is a Latin fan Blender meeting. This year it will take place during iParty9. There will be a lecture about animation movies by one of the creators of PlumÃferos.
