'Infinitum' Wins Two Awards

rocketman_infinitum.jpgDo you remember the Sam Brubaker's movie 'Infinitum' from last years Art Festival? Well, not only did he win first prize during the Blender Conference, but he also won an audience award for best animation during November’s Asheville Film Festival. The Asheville Citizen-Times featured an article on Sam's accomplishments.

From the article:

Asheville High senior Sam Brubaker got so carried away designing his digitally animated short film “Infinitum” for a contest, he missed the deadline. No worries. It’s still an award winner.

Brubaker, 18, recently found out his one-minute animated video won a Suzanne Award for best original animation short from Blender 3D, an open-source 3D graphics animation program. His work has also won an audience award for best animation during November’s Asheville Film Festival.

This is great news, Sam, congratulations!

Please note that the article mentions that Sam 'recently found out his one-minute animated video won a Suzanne Award'. I checked with Ton and this does not seem correct; everything was handled within one month after the Festival. Maybe the article has been written a few months ago but took some time to get published?

Congratulations! This was one of my favourites from the 2006 Blender Art Festival, I'm glad it gets even more recognition.

WHOA! I'm in asheville, NC. Is this the same asheville? UNCA? Holy crap. We should hang out, Sam. Seriously! :D

I really liked this animation in the siggraph DVD. I'd say it was a favourite. The eyes were really great.

Haha, I never expected anyone to find out about 'Infinitum's' other screening.
I guess non-blenderheads liked it too.

The question is, Bart, how did *you* hear about this? We are separated by several hundred miles of ocean!
You must have informants from all over the world.

Bmud (or shall I call you Wray): Yes, the very same Asheville! We should definitely locate eachother. If you see me, I'm the goofy tall guy with a black beard, often seen in the Montford area. I'll keep in touch.

    Cheers!

Well if you search google news for "blender 3d" that article is one of the first results, so anybody who searches for news about Blender could have found that article! But it was actually me who wrote Bart about it. :)

I'm the only one that believes it's absolutely boring and dull?

I guess you are, Reiem. It seems kind of thought provoking to me, and everyone else. I enjoyed it, and it didn't have to have any big special effects or explosions for no reason. Simple and straight forward doesn't mean boring and dull. It's the creativity that really counts.
