The Australian linux.conf.au will be held at the University of New South wales, in Sydney, Australia from Januari 15 – 20. Part of their program is the 'Open Day' on the 18th. The organisation has invited Elephants Dream lead artist Matt Ebb to give a Blender demo, but he could use your help.

Our birthday party is over and I'm overwhelmed by the result. Initially, I had my reservations about us being able to reach our goal, and never had I expected you to be this generous! On the fourth day we had already collected $3350 and the school-o-meter turned into an explode-o-meter :). Read on for more information about the donations and about the next steps.

Here's a site with free character references. It's from Got3d – 3d Models and Textures. Each character is a high resolution, full body in front of a green screen, All sides are projected. There are also some free models made in light wave and 3Dmax that can be imported into Blender. Though the edge loops were a bit screwy but maybe that has something to do with the Blender import script.
Here's something nice to watch if you have some time left this weekend. Roger did some alien head modeling in about 35 minutes, recorded it all and plays it back at twice the speed.
They just keep popping up everywhere. Another new character rig is now available. Otto is the name of the rig and its based on the techniques demonstrated at the Blender conference.
That's right. To celebrate BlenderNation's first Birthday, rather than giving BN something, let's give a whole school to those who need it.
